Mississippi State defensive coordinator in 2003
That defense was an epic of awfulness.

Out of 117 D1 teams:

#90 Rushing
#116 Passing Efficiency
#113 Total
#117 Scoring

Dead last in the SEC in every single category. And bear in mind, this was in the pre-spread/HUNH era of the Conference, when yards/points were harder to come by.

But I do remember one thing about Cooper: he coached from the sideline, not the press box, and occasionally signaled to his players on the field by turning around and shaking his arse.

My MSU grad saw him do that in a TV game and referred to him from that point forward as "Coach Big Fat Waggle arse"

Our secondary has made me want to stab my eyes out the last several years. Either give up a big play or pass interference. Hoping this new guy helps out.

Who's gonna recruit on that defensive staff? Chavis doesn't, cooper pretends to but doesn't. Cooper is a great technician and on field coach just horrible recruiter

Doesn't matter, just a one year stopgap, they will all be let go after next year.

Texas A&M has a vacancy at the defensive back coach and, according to GigEm247 sources, the Aggies are set to announce Ron Cooper to the position.

that will be a great hire. the man can coach the secondary. can recruit too. it seems he is realizing that being a DC ain't working out; great for him for trying it tho. I think a lot of him. if y'all could get some body to recruit your front 7 you would be a factor in the west.

In his first day on the job, Cooper turned in a 13,000 mileage reimbursement log.

Easily the best coach A&M has on staff right now ... including Sumlin, Chavis, and whoever yall walk out there on offense.

But I just dont understand why Aggy doesnt hire coaches who recruit. Cooper is another guy much like Chavis that can coach great talent but cant coach duds. Yall need to hire guys who can bring in talent.

aTm is gonna be back near the bottom of the SEC west again with no talented defensive recruits.
