More of a chance than the OU squad that was blown out.
The formula that put OU in the title game was not perfect, but it was more substantial than just an opinion that OU must not have been any good because they couldn't handle USC.
Maybe USC was just that much better than everyone else.

There's a reason that 2004 Southern Cal is talked about as one of the best teams of all time.
They are not talked about as best team, the are talked about as having a great roster in the nfl. Many of which werent starters or playing that year

Auburn really got screwed by Bowling green in '04 more than anything. They decided to cancel their game with us and play OU, we were left to scramble and settle for citadel. That coupled with OU and USC being ranked atop the first poll wasnt going to lead to any other situation

Isn't the 2004 Auburn team made up of the same players from the 2003 team that USC smoked the year before?
Yes, and added a competent OC who know how to utilize 3 first round picks in the same backfield.

That's funny. 2004 Southern Cal would have beaten Auburn by 30
Auburn had more talent than USC at every single position. Twice the talent at most

Add Auburn's defense from 2004 with Auburn's offense in 2010. Erm ma gerd
Really, take the 2003 Auburn defense and give them proper coaching. You get all the other players from 2004 plus Karlos Dansby, Dontarrious Thomas, and Reggie Torbor at LB

1995 Nebraska > 2001 Miami.
Miami had more talent but Nebraska was a better team overall.

If you're referring to 2003 and 2004, he didn't even play in the championship in 03 and the 04 title has been vacated :)

The AP title has been awarded every year since 1936. USC certainly won the AP title in 2003 and 2004.
