So let me try to understand what you're saying here...

Malzahn offenses tend to make big plays on Saban's defenses?

Is that about right?

That isn't the whole story. In 2009, Alabama played a little sloppy for whatever reason. Perhaps they were looking forward to their SEC Championship game rematch with Florida and lacked the mentality and focus they should have had during practice. Alabama wanted the win more and got their act together to prevent a loss.

In 2010, Alabama's most experienced defender and leader of the secondary suffered a significant injury that impaired his ability to play to his potential. A healthy Mark Barron would have made the stops. Alabama showed their true potential in the Capital One Bowl versus Michigan State. Auburn would not have fared the same way versus a healthy Alabama with a month to prepare.

Yeah, just disregard the bold and underlined sections.

Auburn has needed big breakdowns in Alabama's defense to have a shot in 2009 and 2010, and that's the truth.

We get to play the whole game with our two defensive tackles that missed the first half and the refs call a fair game, we win by 22.

Bama scores 3 in the first just like they did in the second, AU still scores 28. 28-6 AU.

Sorry your defense wasn't good enough

I recognize that Alabama is a great tackling team, therefore, if AU is to score touchdowns some of them will have to be of the big play variety.

It is hard to drive the ball against Alabama. I think we will need 5 big passes(20+ yards), 4 big runs(15+ yards), and some Bama turnovers (+2) for Auburn to pull this upset. Throw in a really good special teams performance and AU can get this done.

I can buy that. There will come a time, soon perhaps, where Auburn will be able to beat Alabama straight up, so there's no room for excuses. That year isn't this year. Good luck in the future. I'm looking forward to a good, defining win.

Your points are stupid. Football games do not happen in a "vacuum" where big plays don't happen and players don't get hurt.

Did Auburn not have big breakdowns on defense in 2009, 2011 and 2012? That's typically how big plays are made, right? Alabama has made big plays against Auburn due to blown assignments and such, too...

Exactly. If our defense didn't ever breakdown and allow big plays, we'd be undefeated every year

I hate that I'm coming to the defense of Auburn, but the OP acts as though Auburn played lights out in those games. They also made mistakes that gave Alabama advantages.

You're right, and Gene Chizik's defenses were notorious for breakdowns...

Ellis Johnson's defense has been much better in terms of discipline.

Lulz

Keep coaching midget football. Your knowledge of the game fits more perfectly there.

The difference is that Alabama didn't need those to win or keep the game close. Auburn depended on huge plays to compete.

Most of your 24 first half points in 2010 was off of busts in the Auburn defense. When we stopped making dumb mistakes, you scored 3 points.

So yes, you needed those mistakes. And you still lost

Alabama needed them in 2009 and 2010, but not 2011 and 2012...mainly because Auburn was very mediocre in 2011 (no threat at quarterback, bad defense), and complete hippopotamus shite in 2012. Alabama will, however, need them this year, and likewise with Auburn. I expect big plays from both teams.

All IMO, of course.

Good luck. As long as Alabama wins and I don't have to deal with shite from the Auburn and anti-Bama fans I know, I'll be content.

No threat at quarterback and bad defense... Sounds much like this year.

and a stonewall run defense.

I'm not so sure. I don't think Ivory is anywhere near the level that Cody, Chapman and Williams were.

It's a good thing they've got a better head coach and aren't facing the 2011 Alabama defense. Auburn's greatest weakness the past several seasons has been their secondary. Their 2011 defense made LSU's offense look good. I'm not so sure their defense is a bad as 2011.
