I don't think any Alabama fan is saying that. I think most Alabama fans attribute our poor performance from 1997-2007 to rogue boosters, an endless coaching carousel, and a lack of talent brought on by NCAA sanctions and the fact that we had almost zero stability for the first 2-3 years of the century.

We lost the 2006 LSU game because we weren't anywhere near as good as LSU. Just look at the highlights. There was a clear talent advantage going for Tigers that night.

Not at all. LSU fans say, "We only lost because of poor officiating" and get called poor sports for it.

Bama fans say, "We only lost because we got caught cheating" and we're supposed to just accept that as fact?

The 2006 LSU - Auburn game was a good example of that. There were at least three TERRIBLE calls by the refs against LSU that cost the game. For some reason, those aren't seen as "facts" like Bama's cheating ways are, it is just some indication that LSU fans cry about the refs too much.

Granted, not everyone gets caught cheating as much as Alabama, so we can't rightly say, "Get over it, it happens to everybody". If my team got caught cheating that much, I'd keep my mouth shut about it and not promote it as some valid excuse, though.

How are subjective officiating calls in any way related to a roster whose numbers were cut due to sanctions?

Are you that dense?

Nobody's crying that we didn't deserve to get slammed by the NCAA, or that the subsequent results were unfair. It is what it is. We sucked arse. We're just pointing out that we sucked arse because our roster was decimated (by our own doing). There are no excuses. Just perspective.

I'm not sure what's so hard to comprehend about that.

This.

We lost because LSU was better. Nobody is denying that.

I don't understand how LSU didn't manage to win the west that year.

We have to play Florida every year because yall want to play Tennessee and Auburn wants to play Georgia.

Florida's last great team was in 2009. Stop with this nonsense.

Les Miles.

Our loss against Florida was ugly. That was an all-around ugly, ugly game. Russell threw 3 or 4 interceptions and I don't believe we rushed for over 100 yards.

He also fumbled at the 1 yard line.

LSU was the best team in the country that year. But they probably weren't the next year and did win so it all evened out.

Irrelevant.

The poster I was responding to was bitching about playing Florida in the present tense.

Still remember the crazy reaction the fans got when LaRon Landry laid out Wilson, which was basically the same hit he had on Croyle a year prior.

And we ran that same safety blitz again in 2007, this time with Chad Jones, that caused a fumble late to seal that win for us

Both sides are right in this discussion IMO.

On the one hand, bama was clearly crippled by the sanctions, which made them a good bit less competitive than they otherwise would have been

At the same time, I don't think even if you took those sanctions away it would have changed the outcome of any LSU-bama games from that era.

Yep. Les really pulled the rug out from Jimbo in the second half.

You mean when they let Jamarcus actually start throwing it.

Go look at Jimbo's career and he has a slew of shite shows under Saban, Miles, Bowden and as HC.

Meh, I don't believe this at all.

I was at this game. I went down to stay with some friends the BTR Friday night and it was like there wasn't even a game saturday. I had predicted 35-14 LSU that game.

However in NO WAY does LSU win 5 in a row if we aren't crippled. Sorry, 2003 we don't win no matter what but 04, 05 and 06 were good teams but certainly not unbeatable if you had comparable personnel.
And no, LSU 2006 was not national title material. I don't know why LSU fans think this. They were about as good as their record.

Loved that game and that team. The Florida though loss wasn't all on Jamarcus. The fumble at the goal line was on him and it sucked. Similar to copelands fumble against Bama. But the ints if I remember correctly came from deflections off our own receivers. I believe Bowe had two bounce of his shoulder pads.

Incredible that LSU team didn't win it all. The trio of Bowe, Davis, and Doucet was unreal with JR tossing it all over the place.
