I would rather have Auburn get the NC for that year for 2 reasons. One, because they were in my opinion the best team that year, and two, because it would make laughing at Auburn even easier. I mean, what other team gets a belated, second-thought national title?

Bama, as previously mentioned

Prior to 2008, how many Auburn fans wanted Tuberville to be fired?

I began to question his performance after 14 or 15 players in the 2007 recruiting class didn't qualify.

Bama fans were all on the Shula bandwagon after that 10 win season in 2005...then in 2006 he gets the axe...pot meet kettle...

I certainly wasn't on the Shula bandwagon.

Of our big three, his only win was a last second FG against a terrible Tennessee team. 1-11 against your main rivals doesn't equal optimism. And after the mistake of leaving Prothro in, our offense looked like shite. He built his offense around one player and when he went down, we had nothing. That continued in 2006.

In 2006, we held 10 point halftime leads against Florida and Tennessee. Lost both. His inability to adjust at the half is what led to his firing.

Did Tuberville have critics? Sure. I remember jet gate, but I also remember the Auburn AD being fired after that and the Auburn family rallying around Tuberville. The critics of Tuberville were usually silenced by his ability to beat Alabama. When that changed and Alabama was obviously on the up swing, Auburn fans expected and demanded more. Thus, they forced out Tubs in hopes of energizing their program.

Touche', dear boog.

Proceed with the belated NC ceremonies then. Now Auburn can make "Got 2?" shirts.

well, you see, I claim 1983, so it'd be "Got 3" tee shirts.

The same number that wanted him fired after 2008.

Who the frick wanted him gone after 2008? I remember the general consensus was that he deserved one more year, he just had to make staff changes.

I like winning. If that leads to you making sophomoric gay jokes, go right ahead. But 26-2 with a national title sure is nice.

I actually do claim 1983 because there was no reason whatsoever we shouldn't have won the AP Poll that year.

You mean, aside from the fact that you guys didn't?

1983 was a damned good year for the barn, though. Texas, Florida, Maryland, Georgia, Alabama, and Michigan, all top 20 teams.

ETA: Wait, didn't Auburn lose to Texas? I can't remember.

New York Times Poll among others. I could go on a five page rant on every little minuscule detail of why Auburn deserved it, but I won't. But it's a legit claim in my book and nobody is ever going to convince me otherwise.

I refuse to agree solely on the grounds that it was Auburn, and I am an Alabama fan.

If I were not a 'Bama fan, though, I would agree with you. Just like the 2004 team.

In 2008 we held half time leads on almost every single one of our losses. I think only Bama and one other lead at the half.
