They would have been there if they took care of business scheduling a strong OOC team or two.

Any team that schedules Duke, San Jose State, and Georgia State shouldn't be talking about another team's schedule.

Penn State, Virginia Tech, and Clemson.

In the SEC, there really is no need for more than one strong OOC game per season.

Shouldn't matter! Auburn played more TOP 10 teams that year than USCw and OKLA combined!

SEC > Big XII & PAC 10 regardless

Not if you go by final rankings.

Top 10 teams played in regular season

Auburn 1 (Georgia)
Oklahoma 1 (Texas)
USC 2 (California, Virginia Tech)

Top 25 teams played in regular season

Auburn 3 (Georgia, LSU, Tennessee)
Oklahoma 2 (Texas, Texas Tech)
USC 3 (California, Virginia Tech, Arizona State)

Did Auburn schedule a Top 10 OOC opponent in 2004?

I don't know if non-conference schedules really made much of a difference in '04. USC and Oklahoma were there because they pretty much went 1-2 from start to finish. Auburn had too much ground to make up since the formula was rewritten that year to put more weight on the human polls.

If USC cheated and the BCS chooses to hand the crystal football over to Auburn, there's no problem with that. Any school in Auburn's position, even Bama, would still accept a national championship if the BCS was willing to give it to them.

Alabama's going through turmoil, Auburn has their best stint ever.

Alabama goes 12-0, beating Auburn 36-0, and Auburn fires their coach

Makes sense to me.

Of course it makes sense to you...according to Bama fans all things revolve around Alabama football...it really is incredible how hypocritical this fanbase is...Miss. St fired their coach...Auburn fired their coach...Clemson fired their coach...it's all because Saban...why don't you Bama fans get your head out of your butt and get a whiff of fresh air...

That is not how it is determined. If you beat a team in the top 10 and they are still in the top 10 after they beat you...it is considered beating a top 10 team...if they fall in the top 15...it is beating a top 15 team...not the end of the year.

If Tuberville doesn't get skull fricked by Alabama, he's still the coach at Auburn. This is fact.

Shula's fate was sealed when he lost at home to a terrible Mississippi State team. Auburn didn't help, but Shula was Croom'd.

The Tubby thing was a long time coming. Don't you remember that little incident in 2003?

The world doesn't revolve around Bama.

Wrong...Tony Franklin was Tubby's last effort at keeping his job. Even had he kept the Bama game close he would have still refused to get rid of the BBQ gang at the seasons end thereby still getting fired...

I don't care what you say. The decline of Auburn/Tuberville started the day that Saban was hired. That doesn't translate to the world revolving around Alabama.

Is Mississippi State more of a threat to Ole Miss with Mullen than they were with Croom? Did Urban Meyer change the way Florida State did things? Plenty of in state rivalries are directly impacted by what the other school is doing.

Wrong again...thanks for playing...the decline at Auburn began in 2006 when Tubby began recruiting and getting commitments from players he KNEW would never see the field...he quit doing his job after the 2005 season...it just became visible in 2008...let's not forget Tubby DID beat Saban in 2007...

Wow. There used to be a word for people like you.....homer. You can't see past your own team and that is sad.

I mean seriously....the 2003 incident? You really don't remember that whole deal with the secret plan to visit Petrino? Ah well...nevermind. You were like 14 when that happened and you probably don't remember it.

Nobody is denying this, but you seem to think that Alabama was the sole factor in Tubberville's ouster, which is borderline retarded. There is plenty of evidence that indicates Tubberville had been in hot water with the Auburn administration EVEN WHEN HE WAS WINNING. Also, the last two years of Tubb's reign were painful, as the administration tied his hands, forcing him to bring in an OC he didn't want. I mean...this had nothing to do with Alabama.

It had everything to do with the move to spread offenses in the SEC. Florida was doing it with Urban Meyer. LSU was incorporating the spread with Crowton. Kentucky ran one and had some success.

Now look. Everybody's got a spread. Tubberville went down because he and Auburn failed to adapt to the changing game together. Losing to Bama was the symptom, not the cause.

So did ULM

I'm sorry, it's just that the Auburn fan base sucked Tubs year round as long as he was beating Alabama. All you ever heard: "fear the thumb," "high five," got 6?" When the streak died, Aubs had no reason to support Tubs. He was a 5-7 coach on a sinking ship while Alabama was 12-0 and Atlanta bound. Don't tell me that Alabama's success didn't play into how Auburn fans viewed Tubs.

I said it yesterday, and I'll say it today: I hate Auburn with the fire of one thousand suns, but they would have destroyed Chokelahoma that year, and probably USC as well.

I would rather have Auburn get the NC for that year for 2 reasons. One, because they were in my opinion the best team that year, and two, because it would make laughing at Auburn even easier. I mean, what other team gets a belated, second-thought national title?

Who said that? You said Saban's arrival got Tubs fired...that is not true...the fact that Tubby all but quit 2 years prior got him ousted. Nick Saban in 2008 only magnified what Tubb's had been doing, nothing!
