We all like to make fun of UTK about 1998. But let’s all remember we should make fun of them more. Because the only reason they got that Natty was because of Arkansas QB fumbling like an idiot. Stoernover. Eta the correct name for the bitches on here.

Arkansas fans still send Stoerner death threats over that. They have never forgiven the guy.

That’s untrue. Clint came back the next year and threw a late touchdown pass to win against them the next year. Don’t comment if you don’t know what you’re talking about.

Hell of a good movie came out about him a while back.

Full credit to the 1998 Tennessee team. They were the most physical team in the country. Not the pansy Tennessee program of today. But the Stoerner fumble remains one of the flukiest important plays in college football history.

I just remember being really hungover and halfway watching the game and shaking my head after the play.

I like his takes, honestly. He’s a good ole boy from Baytown, I think.

Two points.

1). He stumbled because the UT DT pushed the guard back so far his foot stepped on Stoerner's.

2). The reason it was a critical point was because the refs made a bad call. Earlier in the game, Arkansas' punter kicked a bad snapped ball out of the back of his own endzone from the 10 yard line. Refs ruled it a safety...the correct call would be UT's ball after a penalty 1/2 the distance from the spot of the foul (the Arkansas 5). Arkansas couldn't slow Travis Henry down, and UT would have gone up 26-22 with 2:56 remaining. Remember...UT held Arkansas to a just a field goal 3 minutes into the 3rd quarter...they didn't sniff the endzone for the rest of the game and spent most of the 2nd half on their own side of the field.

LINK

So, the refs made the wrong call and UT still found a way to win.

Arkansas won a lot of games that year because of Clint Stoerner. They wouldn't have been in position to beat Tennessee without him.

Hogs lost a heartbreaker a week later in Starkville that put the Bulldogs in Atlanta instead of Arkansas...

Could have been a rematch in the Sec Champ game had the Hogs not lost to the Bullies.

No, but they did have a freshman who was a triple option QB in HS starting because of injuries to the starter and the backup.

Florida State played Tennessee with their 3rd string quarterback – the frigging Red Rooster.

Yes, aided by a DUI suspension on the idiot kicker. If only his DD had come through.
