Thank you for saying lsu is the best overall program because lsu has a national championship in football, basketball, and baseball.

By that standard it would be UF, LSU, Bama, etc. Also to the bammers who say now is tougher did you forget FSU was a top 5 team for the entire 90's, UT was dominant, etc. Its even now. Bama has capitalized off a CUSA level East. The west is extremely overrated IMO with LSU and sometimes AUB being competitive.

Alabama did it against a better SEC

I would have to disagree. Back in the 90's and early 200's Florida had TN to deal with and their Florida games, which were almost always against teams ranked in the top 5 or so in the nation.

Go back and watch some of those amazing Florida games against teams in their own states. It is some of the best college football that you could ever watch.

THis clip is from way back in 1996 LINK

Yep it's a close call but it ultimately comes down to UF had Meyer and Meyer > Saban

Meyer was 1-2 against Bama while he was at Florida, including a beating put out on his best team ever - 2009 Tebow squad. Also got the shite kicked out of him in 2010 during the regular season by a tune of 31-6. Outside of the 2008 SEC Championship, he was outscored 63-19 by Bama/Saban while at Florida.

SEC was too top heavy in the 1990s. The conference as a whole blew shaft.

I don't have a problem starting in 1990 for comparison if there is a valid reason, but none was given.

I believe Meyer was 2-3 vs. Bama.....got demolished by a Shula led team in 05, got revenge in 06, beat Saban in 08, lost in 09 and 10.

UM.... in what way was 2009 Florida better than 2008 Florida, same record but one team beat every single team but 1 by double digits and with exception of a fluke one point loss essentially clowned the SEC before holding the highest scoring offers of all time to 14 in the title game.

The sec is far better now than it was in the 90's and it's not close.

Don't forget Florida had to play FSU every single year.

I'm not sure there was a better program over that 25 year period than Florida State. I guess you could debate it, but they are a top 3 program between 1990-2014 for sure.

Alabama, Florida, and Tennessee were the only consistently good teams from the SEC in the 1990s. Auburn was good for a couple of years, so was LSU, so was Georgia. Ole Miss and Mississippi State had a good year or two. But the conference as a whole was no where near the level of competitiveness that it is today.

Florida dominated the SEC in the 1990s, winning five conference championships that decade. This while Florida was constantly fighting for the #2 position in the state of Florida with Miami. FSU was the unquestioned king of Florida and football (along with Nebraska) during the 90s.

While FSU did have some great teams more than a few of those top 5 finishes were because of a crap acc with no Miami or VA tech.

If you think 09 UF was better than 08 UF, then I can't help you.

Well hell then Meyer beat Saban's second best team by double digits in the SEC Championship 08 Bama> 11 Bama because 11 Bama lost in the regular season.
