just a reality of life at the top....ESPN will soon be looking for another team to pump in their headlines

as Spurrier once said, "after 10 years, everyone begins to get tired of each other"

He's had a great run, probably the best in history, probably never be matched in the future

but the pinnacle has been reached...from here it won't be the same heights of success (though it will be pretty high for his standards)....but I see the Bama faithful will begin to annoy him for not winning titles...he will begin to say "screw it, I am done with these ungrateful people". They are so tired of winning, they will not handle losing at all. ;)

New AD, new OC, other position coaches leaving, combined with a tough Championship loss...the Clemson title win was great for College football... and I see some of that Saban/Bama swag "always wins the big one" has been humbled a bit...somewhat snapped the belief Alabama was unbeatable on the big stage...

3 more years and Saban is done at Alabama...

He may want to win 7 titles to surpass the Bear...that's the only thing I see driving him..

True or False?

I actually thought Bama fans handled it well this year. They kinda ran up against a buzzsaw in Clemson and Watson. I think Hurts gets a bit better, but this offseason will be crucial for his development and Alabamas future on offense.

I don't think he'll retire anytime soon, what would that miserable SOB do with himself if he didn't have anyone to yell at?

that said he's nearing his late 60's so he's going to start to slow down in the next few years most likely.

It will annoy him that we want the same thing he wants (titles)? I doubt it.

quote:

New AD

will have zero impact on Saban, but will be responsible for Saban's replacement in a few years. Saban does and gets what he wants in that dept. the new AD won't have more pull than Saban. New AD knows it. Saban knows it.

quote:

new OC

Oh yeah. This will be a big problem. The new OC is so inexperience. No telling if he'll be good or not.
This is the 5th different OC in Saban's tenure at Bama. All the others who coached more than one season won SEC and National titles.

quote:

other position coaches leaving

you said coaches (plural). there has been one coach leave (singular) and he left for an OC role. Also, coaches leave every year - an average of 2 per season under saban. you're grasping at straws here.

quote:

some of that Saban/Bama swag "always wins the big one" has been humbled a bit...somewhat snapped the belief Alabama was unbeatable on the big stage.

I think the close game last year and the loss to Florida in 2008 made it clear Bama wasn't unbeatable on that stage. That said, Saban is 5-1 in SEC Championship Games at Bama and 4-1 in National Championship games. That 9-2 record on the biggest stage possible is still staggeringly impressive. The loss to clemson snapped a NINE game winning streak in title games, but it doesn't mean they can't/won't win the next title game they appear in.

quote:

He may want to win 7 titles to surpass the Bear

he does.

quote:

that's the only thing I see driving him

that and enjoying what he's doing, being well paid to do it, and doing it at a high level.

There it is folks. No one knows the way Nick Saban's mind works like the LSU fans on tigerdroppings.com

He'll never be at Alabama for more than 4 years. He is a mercenary. Little Nicky won't even be the coach by the time Landon Collins finishes school

I heartily disagree. It is only going to get worse.

Nick will hire the AD, so that won't be an issue!

Actually its pretty accurate. Anytime Saban & his wife start talking about "feeling appreciated" translated into Saban is "you're ungrateful & we want more money". A Mercedes dealership & bad debt paid off later and appreciation is felt.

I never said that...I will admit I never dreamed he would have this much success...Heck he only had one season at LSU where he didn't lose 3 games! 3!!!!

now he rips off undefeated seasons for the tide

It's been 10 years now...he's 65

He continues to roll in #1 classes...

I am only suggesting, the energy can not sustain, "all things come to an end"..

Change is good

My only thought about Saban winning another title last week was it might shorten his path to retirement... now maybe not, depends how well they do the next two seasons

I am sure he wants to go down with most titles of all coaches...

if I was that close I would at least think about it..

Saban is a different bird...

Bama fans did handle it well but I believe that is because most of us realized Clemson was a far more complete team. Hurts was not ready and Saban even said that they did not get where they wanted to be in an interview in December. The only thing pushing Bama fans to believe at all was this team just kept finding ways to win with average to poor QB play in the passing game. If Hurts improves and can read the field next year I think Bama will make another run at it if he doesn't it will be a long year.

I think Saban will hire another OC before he leaves Bama. I don't have faith in the booger eater.

Actually Christobal left as well. That would make it plural. He was also Bama's best recruiter. Bama won't feel it with this years class but it very well could affect the 18 class. He will continue to be successful but at what level no one knows.

There are younger coaches who aren't intimidated by Saban any longer. The game and coaching mechanisms evolve.

Cristobal took a promotion. And it is debatable if he's the best recruiter on staff. Lupoi and Locksley are tremendous too. But his connections in south Florida can't be replaced.

Is this even serious?

Because two coaches left for promotions? Do you say this every January when 2-3 assistants move on?
