what are you babbling about? Yes, in the 2002 season boss did that. People who make the rules took note the following year in 2003. In 2004 they started the "no landing on people" rule, of which Auburn benefitted from in the LSU game. I'm not sure why this is so difficult.

Its just cute that we should thank him for undefeated season.
I'll send him some fruit.

Yall should thank Saban since he was one of the ones pushing hard for the rule

That is always a fun ironic twist to that game that many dont know about.
boss and Saban aside, I think we will continue to be selfish and thank Tubs and teh 85 scholarship players on teh team who actually played.

gee whiz Samuel Semantic over here, ok fine...auburn should thank boss bailey that the extra point they missed against LSU on 9/18/2004 was able to be re-done, thereby allowing them to successfully convert the try which would give them the 1 point victory.

This was the 1st of 5 straight Classic Auburn/LSU games. It was the perfect over-the-hump game for Auburn. We had talent but kept coming up short in the big ones...
I knew that if we won this game, we'd go undefeated. This game is probably the best game I've ever been to in my life.
Here's to another classic
I was at LSU during those years. Always a great game. I really enjoyed going to Auburn one year too.
There was some crazy stat that came out from ESPN on those games and how close they were over the years, something like the total margin of victory over three years was 12 points or something like that. It was always a battle.

Still ticked about that damn flag on LSU on the extra point that Auburn missed. How many times has that ever been called?? I've never seen it called before and I haven't seen it called since.
ok
Hurdling is a LOT more rare....I've seen it called once.

You can't try to run & leap over the OL to block a kick.
That isn't what he did though. He jumped before the LOS and was flipped by a LSU guy who stood up on his way down.
Also, if we don't drop the ball at the 30, we would have had a shot at a game winning FG.
Would have probably missed it though

Official Rule: "No defensive player, in an attempt to gain an advantage, may step, jump or stand on an opponent (Rule 9-3-5-b). No defensive player who runs forward from beyond the neutral zone and leaps from beyond the neutral zone in an obvious attempt to block a field goal or try may land on any player(s). It is not a foul if the leaping player was aligned in a stationary position within one yard of the line of scrimmage when the ball was snapped."
Actually, the official rule is this:
quote:
No defensive player who runs forward from beyond the neutral zone and
leaps from beyond the neutral zone in an obvious attempt to block a field
goal or try may land on any player(s).
1. It is not a foul if the player was aligned in a stationary position within
one yard of the line of scrimmage when the ball was snapped.
2. It is not a foul if the player leaps from in or behind the neutral zone.
3. It is not a foul if an offensive player initiates contact against the player
who leaps.

He lined up in the endzone before the kick. Got a running start. And flipped over both the OL & DL. That is clearly leaping & illegal.

I spoke clearly.
You don't see him landing on the LSU player there and then flipping over him?

I wasn't arguing that it wasn't illegal. I was saying that he wasn't attempting to jump over the OL

quote:His end goal was to get as close to the kicker and as high as possible to block the kick. So if you want to get absolutely technical, no, he was not attempting to jump over the OL in that sense and my wording was not correct. However, his actions put him on the back of an offensive lineman when he hit the pile at the LOS.
I was saying that he wasn't attempting to jump over the OL

Is there a better angle of this play? Haven't looked at it in a long time

Yep, it's been in the book for a long time. Another rare call is "assisting the runner". I've called that one a couple of times over the years and was so blatant it was funny.

Travis Daniels was in bounds with a fumble recovery on Auburn's last drive. So LSU was the better team, but sometimes the better team gets screwed by the refs who don't call a fumble recovery a fumble recovery.
