quote:The leaping penalty is still a rule. It's a rule in the NFL as well. You can't try to run & leap over the OL to block a kick.
I'm pretty sure that it was abolished from the rule book after the 2004 season.

Official Rule: "No defensive player, in an attempt to gain an advantage, may step, jump or stand on an opponent (Rule 9-3-5-b). No defensive player who runs forward from beyond the neutral zone and leaps from beyond the neutral zone in an obvious attempt to block a field goal or try may land on any player(s). It is not a foul if the leaping player was aligned in a stationary position within one yard of the line of scrimmage when the ball was snapped."

Auburn can thank boss bailey for your undefeated season. Without boss, that rule isn't created yet
So, I guess it is a foregone conclusion that without Boss Bailey, Auburn would have lost to LSU 9-9......
I understand, I realize UGA needs to find accolades anywhere it can.

No you didn't.

I have no doubt Auburn was the best team in the country in 2004. That team could have beat a few of the NC teams from 2006-2012.

This was the 1st of 5 straight Classic Auburn/LSU games.
Those mid 2000's LSU-Auburn games were ridiculous and incredible.

AU lost in 2007 but that is probably my favorite game.
We started the season so bad and then beat UF and had it turned around. We played great that game but so did LSU.

LSU/AU is probably my favorite LSU football series. 2004-2007 can't be beat.

My favorite was 2006. That was the most violent game I've ever witnessed. I don't think there were many yards after contact.

Yeah I did....
It was a mental thing with that team...
Went back to 2002 USC, 2002 Florida, 2002 Georgia, 2003 Ole Miss...games we should have won but couldn't get over the hump. All the had to do was win 1 of these types of games and no one could stop them.
And thats what happened.

what you should understand is that rule was put in place because of boss bailey, specifically this wording:
quote:
No defensive player who runs forward from beyond the neutral zone and leaps from beyond the neutral zone in an obvious attempt to block a field goal or try may land on any player(s)
he blocked 3 FGs that year, so I guess there was some sort of backlash that he was jumping so high and landing on people.
No, of course the game wouldnt' have ended 9-9. But you missed the first XP, so worst case it goes to overtime. Also, LSU would've gotten the ball with over a minute left. So sure, Auburn could've won in overtime. Or LSU could have, or won in regulation. I'm just pointing out the fact that without Boss Bailey's superb hops, the game wouldn't have ended 10-9 by Auburn rekicking the XP.

just pointing it out, no need for congrats.

what's a stretch? It's fact. The rule was put in place after Boss blocked 3 FGs that year and landed on people.
