I thought you guys suspended football operations after 1953 to focus solely on basketball?

1967... I think that's the year we actually won our first ACC title but it was taken away from us.

Eta: nevermind, it was 1965

Great find.

Its hard to believe the Big 10 would have been too interested in a playoff 50 years ago. Not only did they only send a representative to one bowl, the Rose, they had a no-repeat rule until 1972. Meaning,as in Michigan State's case, since they went to the Rose after the 1965 season, even though they won the Big 10 in 1966 and finished #2 with the infamous tie with Notre Dame, they couldn't go to a bowl. Purdue came in second in the Big 10 and represented the conference.

How did they not pick Tennessee to win the league?

ah yes. 1967. I was a senior in high school and one year away from being a frosh at LSU.

Athlon was a shite publication then and somehow has survived 50 years and is still a shite publication.

Tennessee will win the SEC again this year. Just like they did in 1967.
