It sure is a shame to see Alabama floundering in their attempts to hire a roundball coach.

Well we don't all have coaches like Jon Gruden begging to take our job.

I've been all about Dave Rose from the get go.. Archie Miller next. Marshall is douchey but yeah I'd take him. Don't even care much anymore.

I don't know much about Marshall's personality....

He's known for being abrasive as hell and not getting along well with others. That's been a knock against him for a long time and also the reason our big money donors nixed hiring him in the past. To be honest, he's hard to like but he's good at what he does. He gives no fricks in more ways than one.

Worked out well for Saban in T-Town. You don't have to be cuddly as long as you win on the field/court.

Bravo to the OP of this thread. This is how a coaching search thread should be put together and updated in the fist post!!!!!!!!!

I do wonder at what point there will be an adjustment. It is unsustainable for the college sports world to keep increasing salaries. Pro level player salaries may hit an unsustainable level before college coaching, but none of this is a long term strategy.

With the new playoffs, the money is there for now. With 0 player salaries , the upper limit for coaches won't be reached for a while.

It seems the salaries should be growing to adjust with inflation. 4 million today was roughly 2.2 million in 1990. However, I understand these salaries could be and probably are increasing at a rate greater than that of inflation.

you sound like Auburn fans when we were sweating for Muschamp's decision. Calm down, you'll more than likely hear something today.

April Fool's Day - the worst possible day to be waiting for news of a coaching hire.

To be fair, the rise in basketball salaries for AU and UA has become an arms race in the last year if I am not mistaken. I just am not convinced that the sports environment will be sustainable 30 years in the future. I am not saying there is an immanent correction. More just wondering when it will happen.

I agree. Except in 30 years, I think it'll be because players are getting paid.

It's coming. College sports has been my favorite pasttime as a fan, but very soon it will be unrecognizable from the sport we grew up following (and you could make a good case that it already is.)

I think that Bama needs to move on. If family is important as CGM says through his good friends. Then you would think a preemptive visit to Tuscaloosa by them to get an idea of just what they're buying into. But, as I suspect, this is just a stalling tactic, to await other offers or a raise, I think we need to schedule the next candidate.

I don't believe it's too farfetched to imagine a scenario where sports lose a large chunk of the popularity they see today. Baseball has already seen this process begin because of the slowness and drawn out nature of the game & season. If football becomes a much more mild version, might fans follow the same preferences? OTL also released that report recently showing the unsafe nature of hockey helmets, so look for changes in the NHL. As we become more and more weary of the serious health consequences involved in these sports, aspects will change.

You could also say if it's taking Marshall this long to make a decision, will his heart truly be all in if he does indeed come to Bama?
