Winning in the NBA is supremely based on the level of talent on the roster.

All time great coaches just so happened to have all time great players.

Brad Stevens has yet to put together a winning season in Boston.

Avery Johnson coached TWO 60 win teams in Dallas. That is super difficult to pull off.

I think the conference championship ring, '99 ring, and coaching Dirk to the MVP might be solid recruiting pitches. Hell, look at what Larry Brown has done at SMU.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the hire. Probably best splash we could make with the names left, definitely an outside-the-box choice. Will need to put together a staff and hit the ground running for recruiting purposes. Definitely brings a ton more enthusiasm and excitement to the job than Grant. I think his personality and style will play better in the college ranks than it did in the NBA. I will be excited to see how this turns out.

Avery is deliberately a gamble. But one with a huge potential for success. He's won as a player, and won lot as a coach. He's played and worked underneath two of the greatest coaches in nba history. His resume is great.

I think what's been said about the guy's personality makes him seem like a better match for college. He knows what it takes to be successful at the top level of the game. And he went take any bs from someone not putting in the work. I doubt he'll need to tackle any players like Rodman, just give the crazy eyed stare he has.

Was also said about Saban...

Why even respond like that? I guess you wish we'd have went with a "blech" hire? Just because one home run hire didn't work, doesn't mean none of them will work.

IIRC even opposing fans thought hiring Grant was good. So if they think this is a flop then we must be Tourney bound

A few years ago on Grant:
"Good hire Bama", "Will do well",

You see where that got us.

"Meh hire", "shite hire", "not impressed" = They are scared that we have someone who could turn the program around and make us a winner again.

Ive heard of Hale leaving. This should be the guy that makes him stay with what he did with Durk. Gottfried likes back to the basket bigs.

What makes you say that Dazon is a pretty hot prospect in the late period. He is a gem with his size and skill set.

Ingram has stated that he will likely sign with Alabama anyways. Getting Johnson basically assures us that he will.
