It's funny I was just getting ready to make a post about zero tolerance and CNS cited the zero tolerance policy JT was given when he was admitted to Bama.

I understand the second chances argument but I really believe some things warrant zero tolerance. I was in the military which has a zero tolerance drug policy. You pop positive once and you're done. No second chance. That is a really, really, really strong deterrent. Some people do drugs but not nearly as many if not for the policy.

IMO domestic violence is an issue that warrants zero policy. Send a message that we won't recruit or tolerate DV at Bama. I was too cowardly to admit it at the time but I really respected Malzahn for saying he wouldn't recruit anyone with an instance of DV.

You should read and not post at all. I don't think you said one intelligent thing; talk much added any side or perspective to this discussion.

I defended Saban when he first let him on the team, but this one blew up in his face. I think everyone realized he was taking a risk on this guy, and this one ended up being not worth the risk. Too late now.

Second chances are all well and good when dealing with REAL mistakes.

Blowing up some fireworks in a dorm? Mistake.

Mouthing off to the cops after you've had too much to drink? Mistake.

Getting in a scuffle with teammates at practice and losing your cool? Mistake.

Hitting a woman? NOT A frickING MISTAKE.

Anyone that classifies domestic violence AND stealing from teammates as mistakes is, sorry to be blunt, a stone cold moron.

Smoking a little weed, pulling a prank, drinking too much, I'm good with letting a kid get his shite straight.

But any incident that involves harming another - abusing a child, abusing a woman, abusing an innocent student, theft - deserves nothing but a packed bag and an escort off the campus.

Those things are not mistakes. I was disappointed when Saban gave Pettway a second chance and this a-hole Taylor a third chance. I in no way want Saban gone, but I hope he has learned some players don't deserve his mercy.

This is Alabama. We have gobs of talented young men who don't beat women and steal that want to play ball and represent the crimson the right way.

frick Taylor and his third chance. Have fun working a drive thru.

This. And I believe it should apply to every single student on campus not just student athletes. Good riddance.

Chick,

Completely agree. There's a world of difference between knuckle-headed stuff like barfights, drunk shenanigans (even a first-time DUI) and crimes with true evil intent. Taylor's crime spoke to an evil nature not a singular bonehead act. Pettway should never have been allowed back and Taylor never admitted in the first place.

I agree. I was blinded by his possible talent and contribution. I admit it. I was wrong. This is a learning experience for me.

Being that none of you have dated a black woman, I will just accept these comments as ignorance because you all don't know how insufferable they can be.

How do you know she's black? (As if that matters)

Because if she were white there would have been a ton more outrage

dont know why people are still going on about pettway, when A) hes worked out fine, not a single issue B)nobody really knows what the extent of his involvement was except the court system (which didnt see fit to punish him) and saban/bama administration. The fact that taylor pulls this bullshite is more unfortunate because it will likely lead to us not giving chances in the future to people who will take advantage and get themselves back on track.

I really would like to know the finer details in both situations, especially this one.

We don't know whether or not the court system punished Pettway because he got youthful offender status. It's not public record. I always felt CNS wouldn't have dismissed him if he wasn't at least complicit in the ambush attacks of two different students and if he was complicit I don't think he should have been allowed back into the university. I hope he stays out of trouble and makes the most of the opportunity he's been given, but that doesn't change the fact that I disagree with the decision.

Calloway got dismissed for just using the debit card. everyone related had to be dismissed due to the nature of the crime. ive always inferred that pettway was most likely in the car and just pussed out and didnt stop it or report it after the fact, for which he should have been dismissed, and was. but i also never had an issue with him coming back either if he kept straight (and he has so far)

That was also Calloway's 2nd arrest in his short time at Bama

The police reports that Pettway participated in the actual assault in the 1st robbery and waited in the car during the 2nd with full knowledge of what was happening. LINK

I don't know why Pettway was allowed back but I also can't figure out why Taylor would've been admitted. The safety of its students should be the top priority of the university.
