Would you rather lose by a small margin in a game or just get blown out?

We've all experienced those types of games when your team is playing like crap and you have already thrown every object in your living room either against the wall or through the window. In those type of games, would you rather your team just go ahead and get run off the field or just see them "barely lose." I know its an odd question but everyone has experienced those games.
Example--Auburn 2008 lost to:
LSU 21-26
Vandy 13-14
Arkansas 22-25
UGA 13-17
Beat Tennessee 14-12 and.......
Mississippi State 3-2 (Greatest game of ALL TIME!!!)
Frick that year!

i would rather never experience that mess ever again. I wish we could just all agree to forget it ever happened too.

Depends on who you play and potential effect on rankings

Small margin hurts more, but I'd always rather have my team give more of an effort. Take 2013 UGA-Auburn. We could have laid down after the 3rd quarter and the Prayer at Jordan-Hare would never have happened. That would have been easier on me, but I'd always rather have them fight for the win than lay down to take a beating.

It was an epic Thursday night blood bath. I fell asleep 8 times during the game.

You can laugh off getting blown out and get over it.
Losing close is much more painful.

True. And I mean the games you are going to lose (in retrospect) as far as this thread goes. I'm sure everyone would rather just win.

You guys are insane, you lose a close one, hat tips off to other team. You get your arse handed to you and you start questioning things.

To me it's a no-brainer, small margin. Makes for a much better and more memorable/talked about game with a stronger mutual respect between programs. Nobody ever says "Hey did you catch that 44-0 blowout game late last night? I'm glad I stayed up for that one!"

On the flip side, at least you can take more positives away from a close loss. You could have played pretty well and just came up short on a couple drives or missed a few field goals. Easily correctable stuff.
If you lose by 40 it's like well, we really suck and we aren't good at any phase of the game. That's a pretty crappy feeling too.

I'd rather my team lose by a small margin. I want to be entertained. Winning is always entertaining of course no matter the score. But if my team is going to lose, give me 3 hours of a good competitive game with teams playing well, rather than 3 hours of my team not being competitive.
Sure, the close losses make you have some what ifs, but I'd rather deal with that than see my team get embarrassed and not compete.
Doesn't make sense to me to choose a blowout over a close loss.

the way LSU lost to nc state the other night was a legit 'we may as well have lost by 30 and i'd be over it with the quickness' moment
same shite with football, losing to bama at home the way we have the last two times is harsh compared to the 2008 uf game where it was like 'aw, frick it.'

Small margin.
I watched the LSU v Auburn games (this past season) at the home of good friends. They are AU fans and it is usually fun. We good naturedly trash talk all week, etc.
Well, by midway through the 2nd qtr...they had stopped celebrating and taunting and started consoling me.
It was humiliating

Agreed, I hate blowouts because then they use the scores as a response in threads....lol
I agree with most others that I want to be competitive as hell and losing is losing but getting blown out is embarrassing and suggests your team is no where close to being good.

Sometimes questioning things is good. Which being a dawg fan, you should understand.

Your team gets blown the frick out and you got more issues to deal with as a coach. Because when the team quits/lays down and gives up in a blowout there are problems deeper than the score. The coach has to work on the mental issues of a blowout as well as other issues.
Play a close, hard fought game and lose it and you still have respect as a team. The coach can work with that, he can get them to refocus and work out the problems and get it corrected.

On the losing side, small margin.
On the winning side, for my health, I always prefer to win big. But when looking back, the close wins will usually be the most memorable.
Take 41-7 LSU. Who gives a shite. I mean, forget for a moment LSU isn't pulling out of its slide into the bottom half of the SECW anytime soon. Even still, it's limiting because LSU fans will just go, "yeah what of it." Kick Six/UGA 2013, however, I could probably incite someone to violence with those finishes.
