Farmed salmon is grey, they add artificial coloring to give it the pink shade of wild salmon.

A fishy smell is also chemically added.

I think it's interesting that most of the salmon we eat has to be altered with toxic chemicals to appear like real salmon.

Cool if you don't.

I didn't know that. That's kind of disconcerting.

I like to eat imitation crab and that's mostly just white fish, coloring and crab flavor.

this. I feel bad for people who didn't know this already.

also I've read somewhere the pink pill they use to give the salmon its color is the most expensive part of the farming process.

People don't already know this?

Ever had reasonably priced scallops? What you're probably really eating is skate. They basically hole punch the damn thing into scallop like shape.

When my cousin was little, he used to catch skates and sell them to local seafood restaurants

Speaking of pink ...

You know that pink thing on the inside corner of your eye? It's called the Plica Semilunaris and it is an evolutionary leftover from times when we had an inner eyelid as some birds, fish and reptiles still have today.

Additives are also added to some steaks and ground beef to maintain the "raw" red coloring.

I really don't know of any farm raised seafood that works, except for catfish I guess. Farm raised oysters are an abomination

It produces protein to feed people, even if lacking in the quality of the wild caught version. I think it's preferable to overfishing the wild stock.

It's not just Walmart. It's a pretty common practice among a lot of producers.

That sounds good to me. Personally, I'm not interested in eating crappy farmed fish or tearing down the evil Monsanto agricultural complex.
