Ole Miss and State have the lowest all time football program win percentages in the SEC West.

They also have the lowest endowments in the SEC.

They also have the lowest academic rankings in the SEC.

So I put forth this question... What is going on in the state of Mississippi?

I know a large portion of the student body at OM is out of state. Do these students go back to their home states after graduation and only return for the tailgates?

Alumni bases at both schools seem very weak.

Why would anyone stay in Mississippi? Sure, Oxford is a decent college town, the undergrads probably have a fantastic college experience. But to stay there after graduation? Yikes.

We traditionally have had the smallest student bodies. Small student bodies=smaller alumni base=less money. It's not that befuddling.

Also our public school system in the state is shite.

So I take it you've never actually been to the state of Mississippi?

Look north to Memphis. There isn't much in the state for educated people in mass. You need to go to cities like Houston, Dallas, Atlanta or even Nashville for lots of job opportunities or for the same job to pay more.

Absolutely nothing. That's why nobody wants to be there.

Do you not know the history of the post-reconstruction South? Some places are literally still recovering from the Civil War..

You shouldn't have to ask these questions and wonder why Mississippi, and other states in the South, are the way they are...

Do they only teach the history of the "Republic of Texas" over in Texas?

Here is my theory. Most Texas kids I've met there could not get into Texas or A&M. They've said so themselves.

Therefore college = party time/easy classes

The majority I have seen move back and do not get good jobs upon graduation. Teacher, office assistant, etc.

Their alumni base will never be able to support the school well.

Like I've heard others say, "they don't go there for the degree". Well degree = job and job = alumni support.

Their flagship university purposely enrolls more OOS students than students from instate.

This would be great if their (OM's) intention was to keep these graduates in Mississippi by attracting jobs, bettering their economy & business climate; however, if you look at various rankings, MS's economic development (or lack thereof) rankings are usually near the bottom

So I put forth this question...which arse whooping hurt worse: 48-31 in Starkville or 35-20 in front of the largest A&M crowd in history?

14% win percentage vs A&M

Losing record to 6 out of 7 West schools

Coupled with the financial and academic facts mentioned above Ole Miss is very very meh.

Edit: Looks like sharing published facts is frowned upon here on the Rant as this has been anchored. At least we know who the most sensitive fan bases are now.

Most of the jobs are in big cities. The only place you could classify as close to a city in the entire state is Jackson, and it sucks there. Most of my friends moved to Atlanta, Memphis, New Orleans, Nashville, Los Angeles or DC after graduation and still visit town often. Hell, I graduated two years ago and I've already lived in South Carolina, Georgia and back in Mississippi, about to move to Florida this month to boot. There just aren't a lot of people in Mississippi so the employment chances for the affluent usually don't pay as well as they do in other places.
