Not that I like us losing, by any means, but having a lower seed is a good thing

It's a tricky situation, because if you start playing shitty you could play your way right out of the tourney. But if given the choice between an 8 seed and say a 13...I'd take the 13 and not look back.

Here is Lunardi's bracket from Monday (so it doesn't include our loss to SC and still has us at 8). LINK This is just for reference, disregard most of the teams in it (the 1s and 2s will probably be fairly accurate I would guess though, being this late in the season you pretty much know who the top teams will be).

Without paying too much attentino to the actual teams, just look at the matchups. Were we to remain an 8 seed where we've been projected for about 2 weeks, assuming we get by the 9 seed (which for this basketball team, beating anyone in a big game like that will be tough) our reward is the 1 seed. So either a possibly undefeated Kentucky, a UVA team that would hold us to 30 points, maybe Gonzaga's best team (that we've already lost to) or Duke. No thanks! 9 seed is in the same boat. Even moving up to 7, your next round matchup is against a 2 seed which will clearly overpower us.

To be perfeclty honest, the best thing for UGA is to get a 12/13 seed, followed by a 6/11. I think most would agree that before the season ever started, making the NCAAT was goal #1 and if we did that we'd be happy. So with that in mind I like to look at 2nd round matchups since anything after making it is gravy. I would muuuuuch rather face a 3/4/5/ in round 2 than a 1/2. In that case we're basically guarnateed to go no farther than the 1st round. But if we get one of those 12/13 spots, you're looking at a potentially managable 4/5 matchup in round 1 followed by a 4/5 in round 2. Not that I'm looking for losses of course, but us falling from 8 is actually a good thing when you look big picture.

I'm not giving up hope yet, this thing isn't close to over. We have 2 SHOULD wins left. 1 sure loss. 2 road games against an average as grits team and a team we've already beat. Should get a favorable 1st round SECT draw.

We are certainly not the lock we were 2 weeks ago, but we're still in it.

No possible way do we get a 13, unless we lose every single game and then win the tournament. 13 seeds are almost always for conference champions from a relatively decent mid-major program, not at large bids.

I get what you're saying. You would rather boost the confidence of our team and fans by winning a game or 2 as a 12th seed rather than losing immediately as an 8th seed. My problem is this team has shown me that they are not NCAA tournament worthy by losing to 2 of the worst teams in the SEC (which is not a strong basketball conference) at home.

I was impressed that Fox was able to pull a few upsets this season with a bunch of 3 star players. It would be interesting to see what Fox could do with more talent but it appears his main problem is not being able to attract more talented players to our basketball program.

Yes. Like I said, if you approached any UGA basketball follower in October and asked if it would be a successful season if we made the NCAAT, probably 99% (at least) would say absolutely and not think twice. So anythign after making it is just the cherry on top.

If we lose in round 1, well hey...at least we made it. All I'm saying is that if we were to win round 1, it'd be incredibly awesome to face a very manageable opponent in round 2 that we have a puncher's chance in as opposed to playing Virginia or Duke or someone that we'd get embarrassed in front of america.

UGA either needs to go 4-1 or win the SEC tournament to feel comfortable about making the tourney, imo.

Need at least 22 total wins imo. RPI just tanked this past week

No way.

@bama - W
@om - L
UK- L
Mizz- W
@AU - W

1st SEC- W
2nd SEC- L

That would put us 3-2 and 1-1 and I really don't see how we're left out after that.

I easily could. None of those would be considered a good win really.

You have to take into account mid-major favorites getting upset and other bubble teams currently below Georgia getting a big win or two that Georgia likely won't have an opportunity to get sans upsetting Kentucky.

UGA could get in under that scenario, but when you aren't a name brand program, you need to remove as much doubt as possible to feel good about it.

That would all be great except like posted, getting a 13 is nearly impossible. A 12 or 11 means we might be in a play in game. 10 or better is where it's at.
