I think its time he separates himself from the Lady Bulldog program. I know he led the team to an Elite 8 a couple year ago, and has taken the Lady Dogs to the NCAAs for like 30 years in a row... But he's so washed up and has never gotten over the hump.

Kinda reminds me of Richt.

Ok, I see what you're saying

It's really hard for me to believe Landers is only 62 years old. I would love for him to get a championship but it doesn't look like that's gonna ever happen. At least Richt is still giving us opportunities. It's just really tough to win in WCBB unless you are one of a few dominant programs. Dawn Staley has done a great job at USC and hopefully we can find a replacement similar to her once Landers is done.

not gonna happen PNW...Landers owns some of the finest hunting land in the state and takes all sorts of supporters and admins hunting as he sees fit. in short, he is tentacled to the program like nobody else.

Nice way to put it.

I think Landers is the epitome of a coach who has peaked. He'll have the Lady Dawgs above average, usually well above average, but that's about it.

I honestly don't think Richt has peaked. Plus, he's come a lot closer to the big prize than Landers, and is much more likely to get there, imvho.

PNW, I certainly agree with you. I have been saying this for several years. He can usually beat the middle and lower tier teams but not the better teams. Although he will sneak a big win in occasionally but we have become accustomed to mediocrity in our athletics.

Lnders is a cancer on UGA basketball. We are never, ever, E-V-E-R going to be truly great in basketball again until he's gone.

And unfortunately for us, he probably has numbers (ie record chasing) in his eyes to the point that he ain't going anywhere until he has to be dragged off the court physically.

Suze went out after winning 5 got damn titles in a row.

Landers hasn't done shite since the 90s and couldn't win it all with our best team in school history. Look at Andy. Why in the world would a 17 year old girl (especially 17 year old black girls) want to play for him? What do they have to connect with him on?

well enough? Making the tourney every year and bowing out by the 2nd round is "well enough"? Sorry, but I would prefer to see us reach our full potential, and we can't do that with landers.

Let's pump the brakes on calling the guy a cancer. He's given his life to Georgia athletics and one of the, I think, 3 womens bball programs to never have a losing record. If one of the best coaches of all time (not just womens bball) hadn't been in Knoxville during his tenure, I think he would have at least one National Championship.

I didn't say he always has been. For a while he was the most successful and important coach on campus. Nobody can deny the things he did earlier in his career. The guy helped launch UGA wbb to new heights, and for that I'm thankful.

However, it's time. Time for him to move on and us, more importantly us. Look at SC. There is, literally, no reason whatsoever SC should have a better WBB team than us. Not a one. Yet they have a fiery young female coach with pro experience that has quickly turned them into the #1 team in America (well, 24 hours ago they were anyway). Landers being here is just drawing out the inevitable, just like when Perno was hanging on at the end of his run. 2 coaches with past glory and success that are way past time to leave. Only Landers basically has a lifetime pass.

And if spurrier wasn't at UF in the 90s maybe we would've won the east a couple times. Who knows? Who cares? She was there, and we don't have one. That's all that matters.

I agree that it's time for him to move on and into retirement. My point is, considering what he has done, calling the guy a "cancer" is a touch classless.

I was going to say, Landers is a lot more like Perno than he is Richt. Richt still has a very good chance of doing some great things at UGA. I think we all knew after the 2009 season that Perno had lost it when we bowed out against FSU in their regional. Then, for the next 3 seasons, we just drug our feet on firing the guy while Carolina exploded. The program has since gone form one of the tops in the conference and in the country to very mediocre, all because we couldn't pull the trigger on the guy on account of past success.

What would be truly classy would be for him to realize what everybody else with even a passing interest in the program already knows and retire. That would be what's best for UGA and for the program.

But no, he'd rather chase that wins record for his personal glory even though it is hindering the success of the team.

Should probably hold off on the "given his life" talk, too. It's not like he did it for free.

Wow.

Where are the Landers supporters now? We lose to a horrible Florida team at home and are now 5-7 in conference.
