Hardaman County and Mcnairy county schools in south central tenn (North of Florence, AL) have already closed schools for tommorow and the weather hasn't even done anything yet wtf is this?

Mcnairy county will probably be fine in the morning i don't understand this shite at all, why do they close so early now a days? Is it simply them trying to avoid lawsuits?

That happened more than once when I was a kid in Knoxville.

That happened in Boulder. They closed schools, including CU, a few years ago because it was so cold.

Seriously? I had to wake up at 5:30 to catch the bus at 6:15. I also had to walk to/and from the bus stop.

I'm convinced that between 0-30 it's pretty much the same. Bitterly cold.

Below 0 there's a noticeable drop again to the "physical pain" stage

I think it was maybe -15 with the windchill in Boulder when things started shutting down.

If it rains too hard, they get out too.

I grew up just across the state line in MS and it was always infuriating to hear their school closures on the radio while I was headed to school.

ETA: Their excuse is that there are too many dangerous county roads for the buses.

We had to do that here because we have about 30,000 students in the district who walk a mile or less to school. And it was -15, -19 with the wind chill. It doesn't happen very often though.

Also have to consider the percentage of parents who don't give a shite and send their kids out to a bus stop with no gloves, scarves, etc. I ended up going to the dollar store and buying a bunch of gloves.

A family friend teaches at Hardin County High School. I forget how many weather days they get, but it's something crazy.

They're jumping the gun. There's not much energy with the system per the Memphis NWS discussion. They should make that call in the morninh.

Schools will delay or close at the drop of a hat it seems. It just proves what we all know but won't say: students, teachers, and administrators fricking hate school.
