What was Tennessee like in the previous millenium?

For as long as I can remember, Tennessee has mostly been known as a women's basketball school. The football program has been a joke, basketball has a few decent years but nothing to hang their hat on. I always thought it was sort of sad that when people thought of a school's athletics, they thought of a sport as terrible to watch as WBB. I've heard rumors that they actually used to be a football school and have a great program. When this was the case, did people really think of football before WBB when they heard "University of Tennessee"? And how many more 7 win seasons do they need before they reach that point again?

They won 2 national titles last millennium. It was a serviceable football program, but WBB always outshined it. Hope this helps.

While it's true that their football team used to play a very weak schedule for an SEC team, they were still pretty good, for what it's worth. Your comment is acceptable only if you're only 15 years old or younger.

Better program than most but not a USC, Bama, Notre Dame, Nebraska type deal. People forget sometimes that asides form 98 they haven't had any other championships for almost 50 years. Having said that, it does not really matter now and they are set up well for future success.

I thought LSU fans took pride in starting Tennessee's decline? Surely you're old enough to remember 2001.

lol no I'm not 6, I'm 14. I go to school in Tennessee so we're supposed to start learning about that stuff next year I think.
