I know qb etc is the issue that is real but do you think you may actually get better at defense? Particulary the DL?

Yes. The addition of valentine will be big. The line was young last year and got quite a bit of real game experience.

We'll be much better up the middle. I'm a little worried about our ends and generating a pass rush. And then there's the new coaches factor. Hard to say

Davon Godchaux is our best DT and our best DE. I think you'll see him slide outside to end, and Travonte Valentine will play inside at DT. This will make our line bigger without losing any quickness (Godchaux is just as quick as Rasco was, for example).

Beyond that, the other units are looking good. We have a beast at MLB and a lot of experience at OLB. And we have some special talent in the secondary with White and Adams. We also get our nickel back (D. Thomas). The only question mark there is who will replace Robinson (answers include SO Ed Paris, JUCO transfer Jeremy Cutrer, or All-Everything true FR Kevin Toliver, II).

So yes, there is reason to believe that the defense can be better than 2014.

Interior DL will be ok and adding Valentine should help a ton. We'll have 2 new DEs so we really have no idea how that will play out. Tashawn Bower, Sione Teuhema and Deondre Clark played a ton last year so we do have some experience.

I expect Toliver to make a name for himself. I kind of expect the secondary to help the DL look good.

Agreed, just looks like he's got "it"

Like many have stated already look for Travonte Valentine to make a huge impact

Hope Steele doesn't overcomplicate things. College kids can't handle that shite.

I don't know, to be honest.

Secondary should be the best in the conference.

Linebackers decent.

It's all on the D-line.

As shitty as LSU's offense was, they really helped LSU's defense last season by having the ball 40 minutes a game.

We didn't generate any pass rush in 2014. It can only get better.

All I want is more aggressive defensive play-calling in the fourth quarter.

it really dont make sense to me how lsu consistently has great talent at the skill positions and OL yet they suck on offense so consistently

their almost as bad as our muschamp yrs were with 10 times the talent

DT - LSU will be able to rotate three quality DL (if not 4 or more) this year for the first time since 2012.

DT Depth Chart headed into Spring:

1.) LaCouture
1.) Godchaux
3.) Valentine
4.) Thomas

DE - We lose some experience and talent, but to be honest, we don't lose much production. Hunter was the wannabe freak and while he had 13 TFL's he only had a sack and a half. For a guy that'll be looked at based on his ability to get up the field, that's relatively poor from a numbers output standpoint.

Rasco was solid if unspectacular. Brick called him "Old Man," as he stayed for an entire career.

We played 5 DE's last year through the SEC schedule, but only really Rasco, Hunter & Bower logged the majority of time. This year, Bower, Clark and Tehuema will make an impact, as well as Trey L'amatifrickIcantspellhisSoamoanLastName, who hurt his arm punching a glass door and redshirted.

DE Depth Chart headed into Spring:

1.) Tayshaun Bower
2.) Deondre Clark/Tehuema (They'll fight it out this Spring and Fall to start)
3.) Trey L'hardlastname

LB - People talk about losing Kwon Alexander, and he's a great player no doubt. But man do we have some SERIOUS talent at this spot headed into next year across the board!

Beckwith is an All-American if healthy. Clifton Garret had a concussion/conditioning issue but was a 5* who got ST playing time. I look for him to be the backup at Mike to Beckwith and to get on the field situationally alongside him.

Elsewhere, Debo Jones and Duke Riley are gonna be amazing talents when we put 40 fronts on the field with 3 LB's. Jones and Riley are both agile enough in coverage to play on the weak side opposite of Beckwith on an every down basis. We are juuuuust fine here.

LB Depth Chart headed into Spring:

1. Kendell Beckwith (Mike), Clifton Garrett
2.) Debo Jones (W/OLB), Duke Riley

LSU will mix and match with those 4 based on personnel (I expect a ton of 4-2-5 because of the talent at the next spot).

DB - Quite frankly its an embarrassment of riches for LSU. At corner we have an All-American candidate-again-in Tre'Davious White. A junior returning two year starter. We lose Rashard Robinson & Jalen Collins to grades and NFL respectively.

But we have Dwayne Thomas, Ed Paris (5 Star true soph who couldn't get on the field last year) and Kevin Tolliver II to fight it out in Spring. The two who don't get it will back up the starters, with Xavier Lewis and Donte Jackson (two 5-stars from this year's class) pushing them once they arrive in Baton Rouge.

At Safety, interesting names include Ricky (my older brother's name is Jordan) Jefferson. He's a fantastic athlete that reminds a lot of people of Brandon Taylor. Also we have Jamal Adams, who is Eric Reid v2.0. Really, really high on the True Soph former 5 Star out of Texas. He's a great one.

We will have Devin Voorhies of MS along with Jalen Mills, a multi-time all-SEC award winner. Mills is the traffic cop and leader of the Secondary. A fiery, vocal guy, he can slide down to corner, play Safety or Nickel, and knows the D backwards and forwards.

DB Depth Chart headed into Spring:

1.) Tre White - CB, Dwayne Thomas CB
2.) Kevin Tolliver - CB, Donte Jackson/Jalen Mills
3.) Jalen Mills - S
4.) Jamal Adams - S

All in all, we will easily contend for #1 D in the SEC again next year IMO. We will be much improved from Day 1 on the field. If healthy, we will be comparable to the 2011 unit.

Steele needs to keep this simple and not screw it up. The talent is there to be a fantastic squad on the defensive side of the ball.
