I think the point is, the money is there, and that is enough for plenty of the bigger names out there. Any anyone with any sense knows, of course, that it will never be on par with football, but a coach who gets that team to the dance with consistent Sweet 16 appearances will have a fairly rabid fan base behind them.

Grant though was not worth the money he was getting when he was hired.

Agree, but it shows the athletic dept at Bama isn't cheap on Bball coaches. They'll try to make a big name hire and money won't prevent that coach from saying yes (he may say no for other reasons, but money wont be it). I'm not overly confident they get a big name, but I'm absolutely certain they'll take shots to that end.

Yea, he has, but people who are connected seem to think that he is a pretty viable candidate. We'll see.

LaTech also relies heavily on subsidies from the university and with the cuts coming his resources would be strained. This offseason would be a good time to get out of La if you are a coach at school not named LSU.

Agreed. I'd be hesitant with Prohm and very hesitant to get in some sort of bidding war for Miller. I think he's good, but he's had various levels of success at a program that is a consistent winner. He is 32-23 in the A-10 in his career (9-7, 7-9, 10-6, 6-1).

I just don't know about Prohm. Seems like a prime candidate to become the next Pelphrey, Horn, Lebo, etc.

I'm extremely hesitant about guys who took over already strong mid-majors and continued winning in their league and have only been at a place 2-3 years and could 100% just be continuing what the previous coach had set up.

Lateral Move, won't happen

And I didn't include Archie Miller because I think he can get a bigger job.

Yep. CBP will take the first decent job out of the pasture that offers.

The last thing I want is some coach who suddenly gets hot in the NCAA tournament. We see guys like that flame out all the time.

I have no doubt that if Grant leaves, Battle is going to go with a safe choice which means mid-major. He isn't going to steal a known coach from a known program nor will he hire someone like Howland who is looking for a second chance. We'll just end up with Anthony Grant 2.0.

Yep. I just think hiring coaches is such a crap shoot.

With that said, I'm totally fine spinning the wheel and seeing what we come up with.

Everyone thought Anthony Grant would be a success. I remember people saying we should pay him whatever he wants so a bigtime program wouldn't steal him away. That's why his buyout and salary are so big

I'd like to say we should flex a little muscle and just go get someone big who has proven results over a longtime at quality program, but I don't see Battle being bold like that. In the end, we really can't do worse than Grant (we can but I hope we'd pull the plug before it got really bad). So at miminum, its not like we're setting our program back if we let him go.

I'm still in shock that Grant's buyout is $4 Million. That coupled with his salary would mean we paid $17 million for one game in the NCAA Tournament.

Just a reminder, you need to change schools again. A&M played Auburn last night.

He's got the boozing ability of Bob Huggins, the NCAA compliance ability of Bruce Pearl, and Rick Pitino's way with the ladies.

Sign him up. With that pedigree, we'd be in the final four next season!

Seriously, the guy can coach but he's got way too much baggage.

Coach K or Calipari should be first two calls. If that doesn't work out go for Izzo or Pitino.
