You can't legislate morality.

Not saying that anything is immorality just making a point

Good. It's only a matter of time until gay marriage is legal in all fifty states, as it should be.

Scalia probably wrote his epic dissent, opinion or concurring opinion years ago when the writing was on the wall on this issue. No matter what's its going to be, it will be scathing and hateful and I can't wait.

Well you brought up state's rights. Slavery was a state right.

And in no way has any comparison to marriage.

Unless you can point out to me where gays were taken from their homes and forced into labor and sold.

I never compared slavery to gay marriage, you're the one that said it should be up to the states to decide. Well the issue of slavery was up to the states to decide for a long time. We saw what happened.

This is one of the exact same arguments made back in the 1850s.

Again. Show me where homosexuals have been taken from their homes, sold and forced into labor, refused the right to vote, etc.

Also show me in the Constitution where marriage is a Constitutional Right.

I thought you were a historian?

It was illegal to be gay in America for centuries.

I see you don't really want to discuss the issue at all.

I'm glad you brought that up.

Do you think voting rights should be left up to the states?

Jesus Christ, I already said I wasn't comparing slavery to gay marriage, so you can stop copying and pasting the same post.

If you could answer the question though, do you think voting rights should be left up to the states?

Why should the govt be involved in ANY marriage

Look at the social statistics between married people raising children and single parents raising children. I believe you'll see why marriage is a worthy cause to have extra government incentive.

This is one of those points where our philosophy on government won't allow us to see eye to eye.

Put on your critical thinking cap. I wasn't comparing slavery to gay marriage, you could figure that out if you would take a step back and actually read the thread.

And still no answer to the voting rights question I see

Are you afraid to tackle that one?

Can agree that we will disagree, agreeably. Two parent homes are definitely better. My argument would be that two parent homes were much more prevalent percentage wise, before people began relying on govt intervention and incentives to the degree they do now. A tax credit for being married doesnt make mean marriages will last or be the glue that keeps it. Its just another bone to keep folks voting certain groups in.
