With recruiting season almost upon us, a flashback to 1980:

LINK

(Herschel's momma took out a mortgage to buy that Trans Am. Herschel paid her back according to his book)

You callin' Hoishull a liah?

quote:

"They were going to take a second mortgage out on the house to pay for it, and if that Trans Am was what I wanted, well, that's what I was going to be getting.....three years later when I signed my first professional contract with the USFL, one of the first things I did was get some of my money, go to the Bank in Dublin that held the note on my parents' second mortgage, and pay off that car. While an amateur and playing NCAA football, I wasn't about to do anything illegal to risk my eligibility. I say that as someone who believes so strongly in doing the right thing that he decided to major in criminal justice"

While Walker was still playing at UGA a man who was very close to him told me that he was holding a $250,000 asset which he didn't show on his financial statement for fear of the NCAA. The asset was a note receivable from Herschel Walker. I will not identify the man because he is no longer alive.

Based on who the man was and his relationship with Walker, I believed the story but have no proof.

I always heard that several GM dealers each sold the car to each other at a loss to get the cost for the dealer selling it to Herschel's folks down to 5,000. Then that dealer sold it to them for his cost. No proof but was always a good story.

It was actually a Ferrari painted to look like a TransAm to throw the NCAA off. He got to bop Sally Fields the first day he got it too. All on the low down.

He coulda pulled a Derrick Little and taken 10K from us then played at another school (USCe)

Funny,I believe his son is the #1 ranked O-lineman in country and committed to A&M.
