Key Departures: Morris(LT)

Returning Starters: LG McNulty(Sr.), C Boehm(Sr.), RG McGovern (Sr.), RT Chappell (Sr.)

In the mix: Hall (Sr.), Williams (Jr.), Crawford (So.), Rhodes (So.), Abeln (So.), Adams (Fr.), Fairchild (Fr.), Pendleton (Fr.), Bauer (Fr.), Bailey (Fr.)

Additions: Cuellar(JUCO), Harris, Owen, Howell(JUCO)

The upside is we return 4 out of 5 starters and they're all seniors. The downside is they're all seniors if you look beyond next year. Presumably the starters will start again. A LT will need to be filled. Maybe Cuellar? Maybe Crawford? Maybe Fairchild? Maybe Rhodes?

I would like to see one of the younger guys earn a spot into the rotation, essentially like Hall provided this year. That would allow them to make an easier transition to a starting role. Maybe Bauer?

Regardless, we should be set on the line and only better next year as it seems like we have good quality depth on the line meaning good competition, particularly for those back up roles and setting themselves up for the future. I suspect a backup this year may be a starter for 2-3 years after that due to the youth.

Hopefully Chappell and McNulty are replaced by Rhodes and Bauer.

Even if McNulty and Chappell start as #1, I'd like to see some reps shared with Bauer and Rhodes eventually getting the majority of the snaps. I guess the point is, next year, even at those spots, we're only going to be better, whether because of experience or because of better talent taking over the positions.

LT.................LG.................C................RG..................RT
Cuellar...........Bauer.........Boehm..........McGovern........Howell
Crawford........McNulty......Albeln...........Hall.................Rhodes
Fairchild........Williams......Harris...........Adams............Chappell

I have seen Williams name in a few articles during the season on how well he is doing. Is he a possibility for playing time?

I wouldn't be shocked. He's actually the only junior on the line, so has some experience already. He was #2 at LG. Maybe he flips in at a guard spot and McGovern moves to the edge????

Hope not. CM is a very, very good guard. He's an average tackle.

I've heard Bailey really impressed during bowl practices.

Agree this should be a strong position, hope Ricker can adjust to this team and be a huge asset, would love to see a former Tiger like him do well. Some of these kids, Fairchild/Harris for example look like they could develop into Justin Britt type beasts.

Next year O-Line has to protect @MIZ_MAUK7_ZOU a little better so he doesn't have to make these faces!

The staff has really done a good job of filling in some gaps, not just in terms of positions of need, but in terms of potential holes in the future.

SENIORS
Boehm
McNulty
McGovern
Chappell
Hall

JUNIORS
Cuellar
Howell
Williams(was the only one in the JR class)

SOPHOMORES
Crawford
Rhodes
Abeln
Fairchild

FRESHMEN
Bauer
Bailey
Pendleton
Adams

COMMITS
OWEN
HARRIS

Assuming Howell and Cuellar fin their way into the starting rotation, we potentially only lose 2 starting linemen after next year, Boehm and McGovern. I'm gonna bet someone beats McNulty out for the other guard spot.

Also, I don't see any of those to be seniors leaving. They all saw some snaps last year and I don't know that they go into next year feeling buried in the depth chart.

I would imagine Howell has to be in the mix to start at LT this year. It's going to be an open competition but with the offers handed to him and the fact he's almost always played LT, he is likely the odds on favorite.

I was really high on Rhodes when he committed. Guess he is not developing the way they want him to. Maybe he'll move over to guard next year and take over for McGovern?

I've also heard the staff really likes Bailey.

I wouldn't give up on Rhodes yet. He'll be what? A sophomore? It is very rare that someone comes in and plays that early under GP. Boehm is the exception, not the rule.

I see Howell and Cuellar starting at tackles for 2 years. Someone will hopefully beat McNulty out for one guard spot. Rhodes? Bauer? I kind of like McGovern but could see someone splitting some snaps there. After next year, there will be plenty of shuffling and plenty of PT for guys to find.

Who takes over at center for Boehm? Could Bauer slide to that spot? Harris? I'm just not feeling Abeln but that might be because he's had no opportunities with Boehm here.

Baily has to put weight on. I hope he's up from it, but the roster lists him at 265, granted I don't think that's changed since fall camp.

I don't see anyone taking snaps from McGovern. He's a high level player, 3 year starter and I think he'll be an NFL guy when it's all said and done.

We definitely need someone to step up at LG though. McNulty or Hall didn't do much to impress me. Hopefully Bauer is ready to take that spot.

Who do you think the heir apparent is for Boehm? If I had to guess three names they're Abeln, Bauer and Harris.

Harris. HCGP likes his QB's and C's to be 3 year starters.

I was thinking the same thing when I looked at it again. In fact, Harris would be a 4 year starter. What I had jotted down was something like:

2015
Howell(Jr.).............Bauer(Fr.)............Boehm(Sr.).........McGovern(Sr.)..........Cuellar(Jr.)

2016
Howell(Sr.)............Bauer(So.)...........Harris(Fr.)............Rhodes(Jr.).............Cuellar(Sr.)

2017
Crawford(Sr.).........Bauer(Jr.).............Harris(So.)...........Fairchild(So.)..........Rhodes(Sr.)

I think those starters are pretty damn solid and if someone else proves to be better than any of those...well that's a good problem to have.
