Standing in the cold rain Friday at Tuscaloosa Regional Airport for at least 30 minutes, 17-year-old Erica Waits and John Michael Ford grinned widely and jumped up and down as the National Airlines plane carrying the University of Alabama football team touched down on the runway just after noon.
quote:

Ford and Waits were two of the three fans who were at the airport to greet the team when the plane landed. Airport employees said this was the first time they've ever seen so few fans at the airport to welcome the Tide home after bowl games.

"There's usually hundreds," said Michelle Latham, an employee of Avis Car Rental at the airport for the past six years. "This is the first time I've ever seen two or three fans. I think it's the weather. It could have to do with the loss. But with the way the fans are, even though they lost they've still done good. We're always going to back them."

Cool. When is the last time you hung out at an airport to see 18 year old kids hop off a plane? I'm assuming Chizik's hiring? People who do that are losers with too much time anyways.

I mean, if not driving to an airport and standing in the rain in 45 degree weather at night to greet your school's team that just lost or won a bowl game makes you a bad fan..............sign me up.

I was going to ask if the Kissing Bandit was there to greet Saban but I just learned she died.

I place no blame on anyone for choosing to not stand outside to wait to greet a plane in really shitty weather, on a work day(for me and many other people.)

This. Damned if we do, damned if we don't. Either way Auburn fans have something to say about anything Bama.

beaver and I make it a point to be at the airport for every big event. We were there countless time during the Will Muschamp saga, and were let down every time except once.

We were there when Gene Chizik arrived (and Cpt. Brannigan, too - yelling "we want a winner not a loser"). We were there when Will Muschamp arrived. We were there when Gus Malzahn arrived.

We have jobs.

Thanks for confirming that AU fans are sucking on that government teat.

Freakin' Liberals.

Oh, so your fanbase only decides to take off when team wins, huh?

The OP stated that there are usually hundreds...

Not trying to build off of his post, but those wins usually don't come on a week day.
