This again. I remember the football expert wisdom from some LSU fans about Collins. We've heard for 3 years that the guy is overrate, can't cover, and made a mistake going to Bama. Yet here he is, 3 months away from being a 1st round pick. Same will be true of Brown in a couple of years.
It's the same song from you guys. Any time you miss on a recruit - especially to Bama - you shite on the kid, his ability, and his family (Collins, Cam Rob, Greg Robinson, etc). I don't see Bama fans trashing Kwon Alexander. I don't see AU fans trashing COV. Some of you guys are just pathetic.

This gets overblown a lot...he got burned more in man coverage, but he also made many plays with his physicality when the ball was in the air. Most of the NFL scouting reports I've seen mention that he's inconsistent in coverage (most mention this in terms of man-to-man coverage) and that he's a good/better fit in zone. In the NFL, he'll primarily be a strong safety...I'm guessing he'll probably be more valued by an NFL team that runs more of a zone scheme and will be drafted accordingly...and he should do just fine at that...

He's got Roman Harper written all over him in the NFL
Terrible in man coverage. Good to very good in run support.
Roman Harper lasted in the NFL an awfully long time. he's definitely an exception to the rule. Not many last as long as he did/has.

Collins? He's got way more athleticism than Harper ever did. He's better against the run than against the pass, but it's not like Harper is the only safety to ever have that distinction. Terrible comparison, IMO. Collins is closer to Matt Elam out of Florida, now playing with Baltimore. FWIW, Elam has been underwhelming as a pro so far.

Collins reminds me of Donte Whitner coming out at Ohio State. Great athlete that's a beast against the run and decent in coverage.
Fact is very few safeties excel at both. HCD will likely end up being the best NFL safety Saban has ever produced, but in the right scheme Collins could be a force. Roy Williams was a one dimensional safety in Dallas that wreaked havoc and Collins is a better athlete than him.
