It really is stupid when people make the argument that he is not the best cfb coach in the nation. As a college coach, recruiting is part of the responsibility. He may not be the best x's and o's game day coach but there is no one better at recruiting and running a program.

If it were so easy to win at Alabama, Perkins, Curry, Dubose, Francione, and Shula would have won a lot more games.

All of those guys had a 10 win season and had Alabama ranked in the top 10 and none of them are regarded as particularly great coaches. In fact some of them are a joke.

I would never say it's easy to win anywhere in college football but it's easier at a traditional power program, especially when that program has shot itself in the foot so many times that they are willing to do anything once the savior arrives.

And to repeat, I DO give credit to Saban for facilitating all of this, especially recruiting.

I just think it's impossible to truly rank or evaluate head coaches on a finite level because so much of what they actually do happens behind closed doors and so many other variables come into play. It's much easier to turn on your TV on Saturdays and say, yeah, Melvin Gordon is the best RB, or wow, this off cord is calling better plays than anybody. But I've seen too much topsy-turvey crap with head coaches.

Gary Patterson and Art Briles? They're good coaches and all but their success won't last. Once Texas is back on their feet they'll be put back in their place.....

That doesn't mean shite. Now go back and count how many SEC titles are in there. 2 SEC titles in a combined ~20 years of coaching in the group I mentioned. 10 wins mean nothing without a conference title.
