Jonathan Williams and Darius Philon are the only 2 that might. Neither have declared yet and I have a feeling neither will. We'll see though.

Philon is one that worries me, but I have this feeling he'll be back.

CV thinks Williams is gone, but I think he'll be back because this draft is stacked with talented tailbacks. I could be wrong, but I feel like he'd be lost in the mix because he's not a big name, which sucks because I love the way he runs and think he'll be a solid second option at the next level.

That would be the craziest one since Lawrence Richardson and Jason Peters both left early and went undrafted, though it ended up working out for Peters.

He has said publicly he is doing it just to get feedback on what to work on more. He said he is 100% here next year.

If they NFL is being honest with RBs, most will get a 4tha and later round grade, not because they are not talented but because they are not in "demand" right now.

A RB who was a sure top 10 pick will be lucky to go before the 2nd round right now.

They will probably email him a PDF via email to save the shipping cost of the printed pages.

I think my comment on another site was something like "it'll probably just be handwritten comment on a post it note saying 'better get your degree son.'"

CV thinks Williams is gone

This is why. I recall reading about the situation his family was in around the time of his commitment a few years ago. Mom had gotten evicted from their place, they were hotel hopping, things were pretty darn bad for them. I think things have settled a bit for her. Maybe there's been a favor or two somewhere, I don't know but I wouldn't mind it a friendly booster family might have lent a helping hand, it's the christian thing to do regardless of her son's athletic ability.

If I'm in JWill's shoes and I have a chance to earn a 6 figure payday in the next 8 months, I take it. He's a year from his degree likely. He saw Knile Davis break his ankle and then coast til he get drafted. Unless we can get him a $10 Million insurance policy or at least 7 figures, and he gets a mid round grade he should take a signing bonus from an agent, not a loan, and get ready to play for checks.

I don't think he's quite there yet personally and he seems to love school. He'd be well served to come play another year, leave with his degree in hand, really focus on absorbing everything he can from Coach B. and maybe approach the game in a cerebral way and get his mind thinking about coaching after football is over. He's got the personality to be a damn good recruiter and he'll ins in the profession that are hard to come by.

Maybe he looks at all the other RB's coming out and who's left for the next class and he might be in a better position next year. We didn't throw him the ball much, which he's great out of the backfield and the NFL asks their RB's to catch quite a bit. He should get that shoulder fixed and use another year with Herb to get that body maximized on the school's dollar. (would be my advice) RB's don't have a long shelf life in the NFL and a good insurance policy provided by the school could be enough to keep him in Fayetteville one more year. If he has a real chance to make a team this year, he's likely gone.

Yeah, it's always difficult from afar to put into perspective the personal lives and childhood situations of these guys and how they play into their decision-making processes when it comes to things like the next level. It's always tough to judge what a tailback should do because of the increased risk of injury at that position and because of the devaluation and decreased longterm viability of the back in the modern NFL. Selfishly, I wish he'd stay, but if he gets a decent grade (i.e. 3rd-5th round), he needs to jump. Even rookie minimum for a few months is a king's ransom compared to what some of these guys came from.

I think we've send the end of backs getting drafted anywhere higher than late first round aside from the usual stupid move from bad franchises like Cleveland and Oakland, but there's great value for teams in the mid to late rounds, and that's where I think Williams (with some kudos from Bert on the type of player and kid he is) could be picked up. Also, and I say this totally objectively, one good thing about Williams is that he doesn't have a lot of miles on him. He was just shy of 1,000 yards last season and crossed the 1,000 yard mark this season, but he only has 383 career carries. For reference, Melvin Gordon had 309 carries this year, and will have 600 carries for his career after the Outback Bowl. There will always be the outlier guy like Adrian Peterson who carried the ball 700 times in his college career and then goes on to a great pro career, but I think guys like Williams who bring a blend of speed/toughness, statistical performance and low mileage are going to be the new Moneyball guys in football at the tailback position.

I don't believe we will be losing anyone this season early.
