Kentucky's early schedule combined with the woeful RPIs of most SEC teams, virtually assures this:

They’re #118 in the KenPom ratings

Kentucky is #1. For better perspective, here’s where all of UK’s opponents have ranked this season:

Grand Canyon: #252
Buffalo: #98
Kansas: #9
Boston University: #244
Montana State: #311
Texas Arlington: #225
Providence: #89
Texas: #11
Eastern Kentucky: #158

Comes on SEC; let's step it up a notch!

Thank you for carrying our conference in basketball. Your program is fantastic.

But it's still football season.

Honestly not sure why Cal did this. Maybe the teams were better when they were scheduled. I commented when watching us play Montana St. and Grand Canyon, how outmatched they were and how UK basically derived no benefit whatsoever from playing the game.

Levi Randolph and Ricky Tarant shall bust through the great big walls of Cauley-Stein and Dakari Johnson and beat UK twice this year.

KU and tu should be enough to carry your resume. They both should finish in the top 10.

I'm coming to T-Town for their first match up on Jan 17. Looking forward to seeing what the Tide has this year.

Randolph is on the NBA draft board btw.

Nah, they won't need to go undefeated. Perception is everything. If Wichita State had the same schedule, or (fill in the mid-major blank here) did then you might have a point, but if it comes down to it with smacking down kU and beating UT, if they lose one or two in The SEC then they'll probably still be a No. 1, unless of course you've got champions from the other major conferences who do go undefeated.

They have two squads that can beat most teams. Kind of unfair.

The NCAA just makes it so important to get a #1 seed if you are Kentucky. Otherwise, they will put us in the same region as Duke or Louisville (like they do every year), who I consider to be the two biggest threats to us winning it all. If all 3 teams are a #1 seed it makes the tournament a lot easier.

That's more like it. I honestly believe that Louisville will be the only team that can possible stay within single digits of them. I'd lay even money that they go undefeated during the regular season...and feel like I was stealing.

Still a lot of games to play but KU, Texas, UCLA, UNC and Louisville are all good non conf games.

You take 4 out of 5 of those and only lose 2 or 3 SEC games including the SECt then you will be a 1 seed.

I don't see there being 4 other teams with less than 5 losses and having the quality wins in the non conf.

Louisville will be tough...rivalry game on the road. I'm also circling Feb 10 at LSU. They have a lot of size and could beat Kentucky. CBS picked up the Jan 10 game in College Station and I've heard TAMU is picking up a blue chipper after a suspension. That might be interesting too.

I'm serious, I'll be surprised if any SEC team can keep it in single digits...too much talent, too many talented...it's ashamed they can't play with 2 basketballs.

Kentucky can lose 2 or 3 times this season and still be a number 1 seed IMO. 11 SEC schools are currently in the top 90; roughly the top quarter of DI schools. The RPI's will rise for the best SEC schools once conference play begins. The SEC will get a minimum of 5 teams in the Dance this season IMO.
