I'm sure Mullen will win it and what he has done in Starkville is remarkable. Freeze was right there until November, too.

I don't care how many 4*,5* or 6* stars they may have. First of all, someone has to get them to Tuscaloosa. Tradition or not,no big time recruit save some in-state who would play for Ala regardless, won't just go to go.If that was the case Notre Dame,Michigan,Texas and Southern Cal would not be in the predictaments they're in.The man is just a masterful recruiter. I think Les is pretty damn good, but Saban is better.

Alabama lost a lot of quality starters from 2013.Without a doubt Alabama "reloads and not rebuilds".Still, its not like a shift change at Waffle House or Walmart. You don't just say "next". Saban pushed and pulled the right buttons all season. They may have not walloped as many teams as has been the custom, but this isn't gymanastics. Style points don't always matter.

I remember in the 1980's Pat Riley never won a COY award with the Lakers. "Well, look at that talent." Yea,but they didn't coach themselves. Same with the 2014 Alabama team.

Great job,Nick.

It's nuts to think there was a QB controversy at the beginning of the year, and folks (myslef included) thinking Bama would see some drop off.

They haven't skipped a beat. frick them.

Pinkle getting 10 wins and a SECCG appearance with a team deemed to be in retool mode trumps Saban.

Make it so SEC!

Mizzou had a charmin soft schedule and lost to the two decent teams they played 76-13.

I think Saban deserves it every year but this one is special. This team has the best chemistry of any I've ever seen. And realizing that he needed to change to match the HUNH last year is amazing considering he only lost 2 games after winning the NC 2 years in a row. Reminds me of Tiger Woods rebuilding his golf swing after winning his first major. And then bringing in Lane Kiffin and kicking him in the arse has brought out a genius. The team actually gets better next year if somehow we keep Lane.

Saban did a very good job coaching this team, but like you said, what Mullen did was remarkable . State was ranked #1 in the nation at one point this season. Repeat that. They started 9-0 (which was unthinkable) considering what they had to do to get there. They had to go though Tiger Stadium to beat LSU who they had lost to for two centuries straight, beat Auburn and their high powered offense, dispose of the Aggies, etc. State going to the Orange Bowl is just about unimaginable.

They had a close loss to Bama at Bama. Their only true disappointing game of the year was losing to Ole Miss in Oxford, but Ole Miss had a good team this year and you have to throw everything out when it comes to the Egg Bowl.

Mizzou coach hands down. To make it that far with hardly any talent needs to be recognized. I don't care if the East was "down."

I can see giving it to Mullen and would have no problems with it.

But.....
The Bama staff has coached there collective asses off on a year that most thought would be a rebuiling year.

SEC COY tends to go to a team that way surpasses expectations.

Alabama has exceeded expectations but since it's Alabama nobody is really THAT surprised Alabama won the SEC.

MO sucks and played in the horrible division.

I blame their SECCG appearance squarely on FL, GAg, and the cocks that chit the bed royally.

Saban deserves it IMO.

There are a few coaches in this conference that coached their asses off this season >> Mullen/Saban/Pinkel

I'd have to give the award to Mullen, what he did with MSU is remarkable IMO.
