Per 247 rankings over the last 3 cycles...

UGA averages 9th in the country and 5th in the SEC.

Georgia was actually ranked 9th in the country before losing in OT to Tech today. Would you say they are also probably the 5th best team in the SEC right now? Would that be a fair statement?

And if so, then is Mark Richt really underachieving?

Or are recruiting rankings amazingly good predictors of a team's success?

I posted this on the Scoreboard and it's many pages back now, but the consensus response is that Richt underachieves by not recruiting better, and he should be top 4 recruiting every year, no ifs/ands/buts, and it is in recruiting he is underperforming.

problem as I see it with Richt's recruiting is he doesn't prioritize def and off linemen. he gets good skill players most of the time and throws an occassional QB phenom in there . also Richt seems clueless about S&C programs.

I can't remember where I read this, but several of his classes over the past 6-7 yrs totally petered out.

I feel like I saw something about that too...

Exactly... Many years Richt and Co. relied on Rivals and various other recruiting websites to do their talent evaluation for them.
