The SEC now owns the #1 spot in both polls, men's and women's NCAA basketball.

Kentucky is the #1 men's team in the country.

South Carolina is the #1 women's team in the country ... for the first time. We've been #2 a few times, dating all the way back to the early 80s, but this is the first time we've hit #1.

I'll post all SEC members from both polls once they are posted to one of the sites.

Remember the poll for the women is split
1 is released on mondays
1 is released on tuesdays (after the monday night games)

Which is why the polls can often be so different if teams get upset monday night.

Yep ... the AP just came-out and the USA Today Coaches Poll will come-out tomorrow night.

SCAR doesn't play again until Thursday - Wisconsin.

Nice win, by Kentucky over Baylor, this past week btw Grits.

Women's AP.

1. South Carolina
4. Tennessee
7. Texas A&M
9. Kentucky
22. Georgia
25. Mississippi State

MSU spanked Top 15 West Virginia and won the Preseason NIT. Should be 15-0 when SEC play starts against Georgia. SEC slate is backloaded. MSU should rise in the polls by midseason.

Some nice wins for several SEC schools - updated in my post above - and for folks that may not know some mid majors are usually good every year which is why Green Bay, Marist, and Middle Tennessee are included.

Cudos to MSU ... that was another good win for the SEC.

Tennessee is still the 300 pd gorilla in the room. Surprised LSU is missing from the women's rankings.

They were in the pre season but 3 losses this early took them out.
Rutgers loss might have not hurt but the other 2 did.

Nice win for the former assistant @ TAMU

Dawgs are gonna get tougher going forward. No easy outs in the SEC this year, should be the toughest conference in the country by far. Half the conference have Sweet 16 type teams if they play up to their potential.

I almost have to laugh at Dawn Staley's scheduling ... in addition to the SEC schedule, she's also got us traveling to Connecticut and Duke. Clemson and SoCal, as well as Wisconsin, were supposed to be challenges. The jury is still out on Wisconsin I suppose, but Clemson and SoCal were not even speed bumps.

Having experienced both in person be prepared to lose both even if you have the best team on the floor. Refs in both places will give them the game if they are falling behind. Friends with an old media person who has called many women's game and when I mentioned those 2 as the worst homers they agreed 100%.

Hope you get the return trips next year and get a reasonably called game in Colonial.

FWIW, Notre Dame is probably #3 on the list and have some really ugly fans to boot.

We're expecting home cookin' at both places.

Connecticut is known for it and Duke and SC goes back a long ways and we've never liked one another.

It doesn't surprise me about Notre Dame fans when it comes to women's basketball. Yankees gonna yankee.
