did someone come up with this to be cool? Or is it more a sign of the fine public school education in your lovely state?
Ok so that's a bit of a jab but it is a serious question. How did that come about?

Explain to me why Arkansas is pronounced Arkansaw
Why do you need somebody to provide an explanation for an abbreviation?

ask the native americans i guess?
but i would think that you are correct, just a shortening of the word. i like mizzou b/c i like z's.
p.s. you can't have a hog logo and be our fan this week and ask questions like that anymore.

I'm a fan of your team, but I don't like being a fan of your team. Therefore I will do so with bitterness.
Plus, I give UGA fans crap too, so I sure as hell won't make exceptions for anybody else.

dates back to at least 1905, the first instance of it being in print.
Likely dates back to the fact that when Mizzou was founded in 1839, its official name was Missouri State University. MSU likely morphed into usage as Mizzou

I kind of agree. Zs and Xs are obviously the cool letters.
I vote we change our mascot to the RAZORBAX.

Listen to how you pronounce Missouri. It doesn't sound like Mississippi. Two different sounds. MISS and MIZZ.
