I guess mainly old men, but do you guys know any old people in your life that have to have some sort of potato dish with every meal? I spent the weekend at my uncle's hunting camp with him and 3 of his friends, and I ate more potatoes than I probably have all year. Saturday night my uncle got into it with his friend that was cooking because he didn't have any potatoes, so he just threw some potatoes in a pot of boiling water.

Friday night - hamburgers and homemade french fries

Saturday morning - eggs, bacon, hash browns, grits, bscuits

Saturday night - Pork chops, collards, lima beans, boiled potatoes.

Sunday morning - eggs, sausage, skillet potatoes(that's what my uncle called them, just sliced potatoes fried in the skillet. they were gross) biscuits.

Perhaps you are asking the wrong question...
Are said people Irish?
Are said people from the South?

They were all Alabama rednecks, but there was no ketchup being poured on the potatoes except for the fries Friday night.

I'm 28 and have potatoes with almost every meal when I'm cooking.

With some butter, cheese, and spices, that sounds just fine.

Sounds like you're a potato snob. hth

I can't get enough potatoes honestly. I eat them with just about every meal too.

Taters are versatile. I could smash loaded hash browns at every meal. Browned just right with onion, bacon, bell peppers, jalapeños, and pepper jack cheese.

Maybe. I was more just taken aback by my uncle's reaction Saturday night that there were going to be no potatoes on the plate, so he threw some on the stove to boil.

I don't dislike potatoes, but don't feel the need to have them at every meal.

I think its from folks who grew up in the Depression and Post-Depression. Potatoes were a cheap starch served with nearly every meal.

I prefer grits with breakfast and rice with supper as opposed to any potato dish.

Here's the great Jerry Clower talking about hashbrowns (Yankee food) vs. grits (skip to 7:43): LINK

Were they new potatoes? My grandparents used to boil them on the stove all the time. Idaho. and into the oven they went or they dropped them in hot rosin - really good way to cook a potato - then served them with fresh churned butter.

Potatoes are the perfect food. 99% of the ways potatoes are prepared are delicious.

Potato salad is nasty.

I'd say most Americans have some sort of potato dish at least twice daily.

It's cheap starch. Not really all that surprising. Fills you up for not a lot of money. Rice, Corn, and Potatoes are worldwide staples of diets for that reason.

The South being full of immigrant Irish descendants make for the obvious potato connection.

I could have focused on all the racism from him and his friends, but stuck with potatoes. They love the n-word.

We had a good time, drank a bunch of bourbon, and killed a few deer. It just struck me as funny how hellbent they were on having some type of potato with every meal.

We have potatoes every now and then, but for my family 80% of the time their is corn on the menu.

It's freakin insane, I can't understand how they don't get tired of it.
