If you are #5 on Dec 8 then tough shite. Last year you wouldn't have been even close. So suck on it. If Bama doesn't win out from the Ole Miss game we don't get in. I can live with that. Unfortunately for Miss St if we beat AU you don't win the SEC and even though I think you are the #2 team in the country the Committee doesn't think like I do. They will probably give it to TCU,Bailor,or Ohio State for winning their CC.

And you are already a 3 pt dog to Ole Piss. Good luck!! Actually Hail No.

Is "Bailor" an insult or a misspell?

Of course they can

Who is #4 is even mor subjective than who is #2.
Best answer is 8 team playoff

Power 5 champs, 3 at larges.

Agreed. Just give it that exact caveat. Honestly I wouldn't care if it was a 8-5 conference champ. I'd want them in the playoff because of the three at larges. However I don't believe the at-larges should be placed 6-8. I think that's where the committee can decide who gets a better seed. Leave their precious subjectivity.

Agree - Power 5 champs + 3 at larges and once you have your field set you rank all 8 the same way we rank them now.

I wouldn't mind some sort of trigger that is a Power 5 champ is worse than 9-3 that they can be replaced by an 11-1 or 12-0 non-Power 5 champ (say Marshall this year or Boise in past years).

Disagree.

IF we had a system where there was a reasonably consistent conference strength, and IF all the conference champs got in, I would agree.

As soon as you add the subjectivity of taking only 4 out of 5 power conference champs (plus ND), you can't play the "you had your chance" card. MSU lost to us on OUR field. We lost to Ole Miss on THEIR field. One loss to a very good team can mean everything...I'm not willing to say MSU should sit because they didn't win their conference, while other teams played NOBODY in conference (FSU, and to a lesser extent tOSU), and other teams didn't even have a championship game - so little tiebreaker scenarios determine which team should get to play for the title?

This.

I honestly don't understand why they didn't initially go to an 8 playoff format. More games, more revenue, more viewership, you have the 4 big bowls already lined up for the playoffs and you are only adding in one more game for each team.

An 8-team playoff will devalue the regular season. Sure, more games between teams in the 10-20 range will become important, but games between highly ranked teams (e.g., #3 Auburn vs #4 Ole Miss a few weeks ago) will become less critical. And a conference champ with 3 or more losses (or 2 losses in a year where there are a lot of 1-loss teams) just doesn't deserve a shot at the NC.

I'm good with 6 at most... 8 teams don't deserve a shot at the crown imo.

I don't know. You're ranked #9, at 8 and 7 are conference champs, so clearly you're an at large team and the #6 team is an at large team. People will always bitch, but i'm less inclined to give it any consideration if you're trying to convince me you're 3 spots better (obviously it wouldn't always work out this way but even if it only happened once, that's one less year of bitching).

Yea but nobody really cares very much. We generally talk about how so and so got snubbed, then the conversation ends with "well they weren't making a run anyway and they had plenty of opportunities".

frick this 4-team playoff shite. I'd love to see an 8-game playoff with some games at home instead of at former BCS bowl sites. Could you imagine the atmosphere at home for a playoff game?

5 major playoff conferences and only 4 spots...it was doomed to fail from the beginning.

Sounds like we created CFP v2.0. Let's send it off to the ADs for approval.
