More on this:

https://www.clarionledger.com/story/olemisssports/2014/11/17/ole-miss-hugh-freeze-salary-raise/19179871/

I was surprised to see that our athletic budget jumped to $76.5 million this year and plans to be $80 - $90 million next year.

Thank you, thank you, thank you SEC Network.

Just saw on ESPN that Foley is not going to be contacting anyone until after the season.

Dumbest AD ever if that is true.

Eh, Foley is normally pretty honest. UF's season ended last Saturday.

Foley is one of the best AD's in the country, Pivey Sr.

Foley won't be contacting any coaches until after the season is over.... BUT he's probably already in discussions with their agents.

I just want us to be careful with contract talks. We don't need another Houston Nutt contract. If 6mil was the number, I'd tell Freeze its been real.

contract with more focus on winning the SEC West and SEC as whole.. Win the SEC the NC titles will come. Freeze already shown he can get us into bowl games year in and year out.

And we should. Football is the cash cow... If we made an additional 14 million from sec network. Why not slice off a piece for Freeze and a higher allotment for his assistants. We are already profitable. And getting bowl money and keep selling out the stadium and increasing capacity.. I'd say match him up to 6.5 with incentives and have a 10 mill buyout.

A ms guy who wants to dominate and loves MS. Keep him for life.
I'd be ok with 3 win season every now and then because he will have winning records 80% of his career and compete for championships every other season.

As far as recruiting and perception, who could we get that would be a better fit?

I would be shocked if he left. Freeze will just get a nice pay raise. Probably in the $4 mil range. Even though Bovada has him as an 8/1 favorite to be UF next head coach I wouldn't bet on it.

Odds for Florida's next coach courtesy of Bovada
Mike Gundy Oklahoma State 4/1
Jim McElwain Colorado State 9/2
Bob Stoops Oklahoma 11/2
Dan Mullen Mississippi State 11/2
Rich Rodriguez Arizona 7/1
Mike Shanahan Available 7/1
Steve Spurrier South Carolina 8/1
Hugh Freeze Ole Miss 8/1
Gary Patterson TCU 12/1
Gus Malzahn Auburn 12/1

Half of that list make zero sense.

Both OM and HF need to show long term dedication to the other in the next negotiations.
State law doesn't allow a contract longer than 4 years. That aspect is completely out of our control and is why we have to renegotiate every year.

A&M is more to blame with Sumlin's abortion of a contract. Now every coach who has a 10 win season will have his hand out for 5 mil per year.

Seriously, that has to be the worst and most overblown contract of all time. Sumlin by no means deserves that raise.

Don't some State(s) only allow for one (1) year contracts?

Maybe, but some states allow much longer contracts. I would imagine the ones only allowing a year would really struggle to retain coaches as well.

I think the 1 year limit is for contractors not permanent employee contracts. There's a difference.
