First off, I hate to use the word marginalized because it sounds too strong to me, as does "discriminated against", so for lack of a better word I went with marginalized.

Anyway, I've had a great time in Aggieland, both socially and academically, and I've always thought I made the right decision by coming here (and still do) but tonight I really and truly felt that

Firstly, I was rejected from a bar because of my SC ID. For whatever reason the guy manning the door seemed to forget that there are, in fact, 49 other states in the union, and wanted some more verification about my ID. I guess he wanted to see my voter registration card or my SC insurance cards?

So right after that I decide I'll just go somewhere else, and I get in with my SC ID just like every other bar in College Station. What do I see? A beautiful Gamecock logo on someone's hat. What a sight, just rejected because of my SC ID and I see another Gamecock logo for the 1st time in 3 months. I go up to the guy and ask about it, what do I hear? "Haha, grab my cock?" Now I am probably the most reserved guy you've ever met in your life but I have probably never been so wide-eyed and red-faced from anger in my life. The guy just continues laughing because of his remark (obviously he didn't know I was actually from SC), and I just sat there stunned.

With all of that said, I know the guy at the door was just freaked out by a non-TX ID (still stupid) and the other guy thought saying the word "cock" was the most clever thing he had ever thought of in his life.. but back to back.. within a half hour of each other I had never felt so disrespected in my life.

As you guys might have guessed with the Columbia Yell Practice confrontation between our two fan bases, SCers have a lot of pride, and for the 1st time since being here I felt like I was an outsider because I was from SC.

Shake the haters off bro.

I was born and raised here in B/CS and even I feel like an outsider sometimes now that I'm no longer in school.

Screw that bar and screw that guy. You're good people and you're an Aggie now even if you wont admit it.

A lot of bouncers are skeptical about out of state IDs because a lot of students try to use that as fakes so they don't recognize what is real and whats not which i understand how that can be frustrating.

I had a friend with a Texas ID one time who was 25 years old not get let in to a bar because he wasn't wearing his glasses at the time and the bouncer kept saying you aren't wearing your glasses this isn't you.

Finally a cop had to come over and verify that it was him and to give the ID back to him.

Most bars are just scared to be fined or caught by TABC.

I hear ya. I get crap for my Cali license from bars every now and then. Even in "progressive" towns such as Austin. Just shake it off.

As for the dude telling you to grab his cock...well, it is aggieland.

The ID thing didn't have to do w/ you being from SC, but frick that other dude.

You should have told him you were a Gamecock tho and that would have embarrassed the manners into him.

That flag avatar is great.

As it happens I was born on a naval base in SC although my dad was AF.

1. The DL...that bouncer sees 100s of fakes. Go get a TDL and join the collective.
2. He was hitting on you.

back when the drinking age in NOLA was 18, I was there for the ULSU game when I was in school. Like you, I got denied at a bar because of an out of state ID. And like you I was super pissed until we snuck into the next bar and I drank 6 hurricanes to ease my suffering

Was it the one on the corner of Church and College? I think it was last called Rebel House or something like that.

Nah, Rebel's let's me in every time.. including last night. I was just pissed because it was a bar I had gotten into before.

As for getting a TDL, well then I'd have to go through the process of getting a TX license plate and do the inspection thing that SC doesn't have to do.

Was it the Dry Bean?

I used to have trouble there w/my old ID b/c on that one I'm clean cut even though I've had a beard since about 2010. I imagine the same shite will happen once I finally shave and still have my current bearded ID.

Nah it was Kyoto's, I was supposed to meet a friend there but couldn't in.. even if I had been there before and had an Aggie bomb or two.

I actually have pretty long hair on my ID (it's the same picture I had since I first got my ID when I was 16) but it's shorter / cleaner now. In both SC and TX people have to take a look at it but it's usually just followed with a "nice haircut" and I get in.

Sorry for the bad experience, but legally you should have a Texas DL if you have been here 90 days.

What is the law for having the proper address on your ID?

I still have Tyler as where I live b/c I know a guy down there that gets me off jury duty. I haven't actually lived there since 2007.

The only negative I've really encountered is its a bit of a pain to go down there to vote.

I had heard about this but my permanent address is still in SC so would I still need to get one as long as I am officially a nonresident / student visitor?

As a student it's your choice on residency. Don't mind hank, he has that "old man yelling at you to get off his lawn" charm, and his partner got banned after he melted daily for a month straight.

I worked at a liquor store, and it's never fun declining an ID, but it was just short of a 2k fine if I got in trouble, so it
s hard to not be skeptical sometimes. I've had trouble OOS with my ID as well.

If you had been drinking already , bravo for handling it all in stride lol

Yeah I was pretty drunk at that point but even then I'm pretty good at picking my battles. I've seen assholes get mad at bouncers for not letting people in for whatever reason and not once have I seen it lead to the person actually get into a bar.

It's like when a manager comes out and yells at the umpire for a bad call. At the end of the day there isn't a damn thing the manager can do about it. So I just move on to the next place that will serve me some alcohol.

I guess next time I need to bring my SC voter registration card or my SC health insurance cards to prove it.

Sounds like you just ran into 2 dbags. We have them at A&M. There are 30k 18-22 year old dudes. When you hit up NG you're more likely to run into a few.

If Mike Evans couldn't fight his way in against bouncers, I know I don't stand a chance lol
