Is Gurley really going to have to pick up trash on the side of the road alongside all the people serving out their DUI and public-intoxication sentences? .......for selling autugraphs?

This whole thing is fricking Twilight Zone.

When did the NCAA assume the power to dole out punishment normally reserved for people that broke actual laws?

I think Gurley is a moron and a fool for blowing his opportunities this year at UGA, but I'm fine with him refusing to serve this community service sentence. In fact, I encourage it. Even if it means missing the rest of the year.

Enough is enough.

Down with the insane control-freak busy-bodies.......

Complete BS. If the NCAA wants to make a statement it should be they are investigating all of these and say folks best fess up now OR risk losing games.

Give a 2 week window with no punishment.

They shouldn't rub it in one teams face knowing good and damn well others are doing it.

Apparently, there's a never-ending supply of busy-bodies applying for these soulless jobs........so don't contact them. Theyll contact you!

That, right there, is the REAL problem.

It's depressing to me that there isn't a stigma associated with the people who work for these immoral institutions. They should be shunned by society just like IRS employees, etc. should be. "We're just following orders" isn't an excuse.....

Gurley will probably work with the Boys & Girls Club, or some mentoring center. The university has a long list of agencies that the players can work with. He's probably working each weekend already.

Is it a case where he has to do the community service only if he can't repay the 3K?

And that can be many things other than trash pickup.

I planted a garden at the library, and helped paint the inside of the USS Kid.

That shite was kinda cool honestly

He has to do both before he can get back on the field. But he only has to pay a portion to charity. Don't know how much.

How does the NCAA demand community service? What authority do they have there?

I had a fricking Judge tell me what to do.

If'n I was Tud, I'd tell the NCAA to pound sand, drop out of school, keep the money, and wait for the phone to ring on draft day.

Hell..if you go that route go ahead and get some front money from an agent and hire a trainer to get you ready for the draft....move up town and get your groove on. Get Nike on the phone and start working on your TGII sports drink formula b

If you're gonna be a bear ... be a grizzly.... screw this small time autograph shite.

This does seem stupid for them to say he has to do this. I heard that Georgia had appealed the whole decision, and that the likely result would be they would lift the community service.

Heard it on 680 The Fan, though, so take it for what it is worth.

I think they are doing the community service in lieu of some of the money that he owes back, since it says in the statement "pay back some of the $3,000." My guess is that he can't afford all $3,000 since he probably can't resell those flat bill hats and he doesn't have time to get a job to repay it.

Just my thoughts on why the community service. Who knows, maybe UGA offered that first as punishment???
