LSU fans, what was your biggest problem with Aubie and State?

A QB that could extend the play with his feet and a defense that couldn't make the necessary adjustments at the time

Like playing early, young players, etc....?

They are better than us this year and still are.

this

an improving LF and a QB who could make them fear a downfield pass will make a difference if those things are real and not inconsistent things (QB situation is obviously still a giant question mark)

replacing a lb and getting a couple guys back on DL does make some difference on defense but my suspicion is MSU and Auburn would still put up points on LSU - even LSU in December

I don't think anyone thinks LSU could have beaten Auburn this year. I think you specifically believe that if the game last year was 5 quarters, Auburn would have won.

I think that's the difference.

Short of the long:

Against State, you can't expect a true frosh and true soph and DJ Welter to start and bottle up a power run.

Against Auburn, everything happened, and it was all bad.

The offensive line just had its best performance of the season against Ole Miss and Beckwith is coming along nicely.

Jennings seemed to be regressing as the season went on, but Saturday, he hit a couple nice passes across the middle I'm not sure he's capable of making 3 weeks ago. On the bad, his deep throws looked horrible, and those were the only throws he could make early in the season.

The return game is ugly. Ole Miss won the game on field position.

Watching them score TD's more times than their team.

Biggest issue was the D could't stop either team. Tons of big plays given.

Even if improved our O is not the type to score in every drive, so we have no prayer in those types of games.

AU and MSU are built on a power running game. LSU is smaller, speedy D. The matchup was not good for them.

The one I always heard was "Gus's system wasn't fully installed".

"The rain screwed Auburn" was prevalent as well.

I just found it funny that they were saying Auburn had all the excuses, yet in this thread are excuses for the loss to AU this year. Neither is worse than the other. The statement I responded to was a comical comparison

Except Auburn fans last year believed they deserved to win the game.

Nah, I'm good. Never had any to begin with.

By all means, keep bitching though. You're pretty good at it.

Ol and TEs learning the zone blocking scheme.
DL especially DTs improving with experience.
MLB play is much improved.
D in general getting the play communicated quickly.
Using three safeties instead of three LBs for most plays.

Easy:

MSU game- Missed assignments on defense, but still LSU almost pulled off the win
Auburn- Best team in Alabama and they played well and we played poorly.

Auburn - one of those nights where everything went wrong...if you take all the 4th downs inside the Auburn 30 and converted those to field goals, the game wouldn't have looked as bad

If you don't think that LSU is better on defense now than they were a month ago, I don't know what to tell you. There have been personnel changes and true freshmen are gaining experience.

That wasn't my point. I totally agree LSU is better at this point. I happen to think new personnel take time to gel and get game-weathered. It was just funny seeing the comment about youth/inexperience, since AU fans said the same thing.

So, unlike Auburn fans last year, I do not see LSU fans trying to take anything away from Auburn.

There's nothing to take away, there was never a sniff of competition this year. I think AU fans were arguing, in hindsight, the team was different (no read-option utilization) during the LSU game, and the outcome would probably be different in a rematch. I don't think that's unfair.
