I will be relocating from Charleston for work. Right now it looks like one of the more likely destinations is Miami, specifically Miami Gardens/Westin area. Does anyone have insight into the area and whether they would recommend it or not? TIA

Great women, cocaine, and art.

Terrible for birdwatching.

In all honesty it just depends. If you like the fast lane and night life... Miami is awesome. I haven't lived there but a few friends do. Love the place.

But I'm not raising my daughter there.

Great Cuban food.
Learn Spanish or you'll order a goat testicle by just pointing at something on a menu.

Don't get shot.

Lots of booty. Wouldn't mind living there when I'm finished with school. Having no winter also is a big plus.

Miami is part of Latin America.

Welcome to Miami, as in English

But more customary-

Bienvenido a Miami (Espanol)

or

Bemvindo a Miami (Portuguese)

Now you try it!

Live as far North as you possibly can, that is what I did when I relocated.

South Beach or bust. I got lost in Miami last time I was there. Probably the most scared I have ever been in my life.

Oh! And I went to Miami's Mall of America and there was actually a store that had a sign up advertising:

"Ladies panties! 88 cents! New!! Never worn or used!"

So glad they felt the need to reassure ppl that the panties had never been worn or used. Needless to say, I got the hell outta there after taking a pic of the stellar advertising of panties.

Westin is more toward fort lauderdale. Not a bad area at all. Its a bit inland, not by the beaches.

Yeah, so much diversity in south Florida, depends entirely where you are.

You can have the middle class white suburbs in westin, Latin America, Cuba north, richest old white people in the country per capita, ghetto housing projects, celebrities athletes and super models, young professionals, Russian communities, Jewish communities, college kids, etc. All of that in different neighborhoods within a 50 mile radius.

It doesn't matter what kind of people you like or lifestyle you live, their are plenty of people just like that all in the south florida area.

Oh, and that learn Spanish shite is stupid. I've lived in south florida 6 years in all different parts.

I can't speak a lick of Spanish. No damn clue and have never needed to once in 6 years here. You have fricktons of people who are bilingual, my office with about 25 people have 8 different languages covered. But everyone speaks English fine except for maybe lil Havana.

Was in Miami in early 2013.

I came away liking Miami much more than before.

I could live there but it need to be north side. Ft lauderdale. The tourist lifestyle in the city would get to me. I used to live in Vail, Co and seeing everyone on vacation can do a number on your ability to stay focused on life goals. Just my two cents...

Agree with that. I didn't do anything when I moved here the firsttime at 23 years old. Chased Latin arse, drank, got fuct up, gambled, got laid and that was it.

I had to leave after a year. Came back for 2 years and did ok but still lived the life and wasn't progressing.

Came back a few years ago and still have a lot of fun, but have my career as the priority this time and the fun is had when it can be had.
