Teixeira calls SC great program

quote:

How good are college baseball teams compared to minor league teams? Great programs, like South Carolina, according to former Dick Howser Award winner and World Series winner Mark Teixeira, are comparable to Single-A teams.

Teixeira, who spent two hours talking sports on the Mike & Mike radio show on Wednesday, believes that top-level college programs full of 18-22 year olds can compete with the hodgepodge of players found at the Single-A level.

“SEC, Pac-10, ACC baseball is probably High-A ball,” Teixeira said “We have guys who come out of college who run through High-A ball and Double-A pretty quickly. Most guys need to take a year in Low-A, a year in High-A, then they may move up. If you’re at South Carolina at a great baseball program, you can probably play in A ball right out of college.”

He's right. There are probably twenty programs in the country that can be said about and we are definitely one of them.

With that said, I'd dare say we have probably established ourselves as one of the Top 10 NCAA baseball programs of all time.

Anyone care to take a shot at naming all 10 and in what order?

Let's begin with SoCal, agreed. Then Texas. Those would have to be 1 & 2 with almost no room for contention.

So ...

1 - So Cal
2 - Texas

Then, from there, in my opinion ...

3 - ASU
4 - AZ
5 - CSF
6 - Miami
7 - LSU
8 - SCAR
9 - Stanford
10 - FSU

The So.Cal program is kind of crazy. They had such a dominate run. Have twice as many titles (12) as the #2 (LSU and Texas with 6) but then they completely fell off the map and have been off it for decades.

Kind of sucks. As great our program is it has been on the cusp of being even greater. We've been to the CWS finals 6 times, the same as LSU, and although 2 titles is great.. LSU is an outstanding 6-0 in the CWS finals. Which, by the way, I think Texas should be somewhere on that list with 6 titles.

eta: Also, checking wiki Texas has the most CWS wins of all-time, although their win % is less than .600, well behind So.Cal's and even ours. In fact, among the top 10 CWS wins team we have one of the higher win % in Omaha.

With that said I can understand not having them as high on the list, mainly because their success as a program is relatively recent.

Great list, but I have to rank LSU and their 6 titles no lower than 3-4.
