True, but Kirkland in particular was at fault in at least two of those blocked kicks.

That very well may have been a factor. But kickers usually need to kick extra points with a somewhat steeper trajectory than with field goals. Think of it in terms of hitting a golf ball with a pitching wedge vs. a longer shot with a #3 iron.

He got absolutely destroyed on the blocked PAT in the Georgia game after our opening TD. He was on his backside at almost the exact same time the ball was being kicked.

Who knows if Henson saw that and it got in his head for that split second, but that blocked PAT was on Kirkland.

Do you happen to recall if there was a similar situation with any other failed extra point attempts?

I haven't, but I believe some others have. The Georgia one was just so obvious because they showed the replay and he got pushed back and fell on his butt right in front of the holder, and whoever blocked it was allowed free release.

No kidding. That's quite possibly the only thing I miss about Petrino's coaching staff.

Our kicking game was mostly fine, but we gave up quite a few special teams touchdowns, especially in big games. Bama/LSU in 2011 stand out and I believe we gave one up against Auburn in 2010

Both of those were blowouts, though.

What I really miss is having someone who can reliably field punts. I don't have to have Joe Adams, but we desperately need someone who's sure-handed who will get up under a fair catch and make it to save field position as opposed to letting balls consistently hit the turf and take an opponent-friendly bounce or roll deep in our territory.

I'm sure a big part of that was petrino's lack of emphasis on defense.

glad bert likes defense

was in petrinos first lucky big instate class. after that it was downhill for petrinos recruiting

berts recruiting >>>>>>>>>>>>> petrinos recruiting

I like our chances of finding another player in the mold of joe adams that will actually stay on the team (marquel wade) with bert

Oh I agree, I'm just hoping that guys like KJ it JoJo can step up and get that sure-handed receiver to lend a hand in ST.

Speaking of staying on the team, Marshall's absense and possible future booting if he doesn't get his shite together may frick us on KO returns for awhile.
