Andy Staples plays Jeff Long in the vote LINK

2008 undefeated or 1 loss teams
(4) played 13 games that season (all had 1 loss)
Alabama, Ball State, Florida and Oklahoma
(2) played 12 games that season (undefeated)
Boise State and Utah
(4) played 12 games that season (all with 1 loss)
Penn State, Southern California,Texas, and Texas Tech

After the first cut these 6 remained
SEC Alabama and Florida (both played 13th game)
B12 Oklahoma (played 13th game) and Texas (only played 12 games)
B1G Penn State (only played 12 games)
PAC Southern Cal (only played 12 games)

Then the top 3 were fixed
1. Florida - played 13 games
2. Oklahoma - played 13 games
3. Texas - played 12 games
(already a 12 game non SEC team passed a 13 game SEC team)

Then 2 votes on next 3 were taken
VOTE #1
4. USC
5. Alabama
6. Penn State
(Alabama playing 13 games is jumped by team only playing 12)
VOTE #2
4. USC
5. Penn State
6. Alabama
(Alabama playing 13 games is jumped by 2 team only playing 12)

Here were the non conference games for each school : Opponents pre bowl records where noted
Big 5 at the time in BOLD, FCS underlined. Final rankings from 2008 LINK
SEC
Alabama = (7-5) Clemson, Tulane, Western Kentucky, and Arkansas State
Florida = #21/#23 (8-4) Florida State, (7-5) Miami, Hawaii, and The Citadel
B12
Texas = (5-7) Arkansas, Florida Atlantic, UTEP, and Rice
Oklahoma = (0-12) Washington, #17 Cincinnati, #7 TCU, and UT Chattanooga
PAC
Southern California = #8/#11 (10-2) Ohio State, (6-6) Notre Dame, and (5-7) Virginia
B1G
Penn State = #18/#19 (8-4) Oregon State, (3-9) Syracuse, (5-7) Temple, and Costal Carolina

No problem with Florida and Oklahoma as #1 and #2 based on non conference schedule and playing extra CCG and winning.

Problem with Texas jumping Alabama as Tide played 13 games and had the tougher non conference schedule

Problem with Southern Cal jumping Alabama as they only played 12, Notre Dame + Virginia were bad that year, and Buckeyes were over rated

Problem with Penn State jumping Alabama as they only played 12 games, no CCG, and non conference was not stellar

IF, and that's a huge if, both Mississippi schools go into the Egg Bowl undefeated and it's a really close game, I could see them both getting in should the winner go on to win the SEC. We would need Florida State, Notre Dame and Baylor all to lose though.

Auburn is the only non conference winner that I see making it in

Also, if Auburn wins out and State goes undefeated. Or, if Bama wins out and OM goes undefeated. You will 100% see two.

We will never get 2 in. Posters that thought the 4 team playoff was gonna be a better way to get multiple sec teams in were dumb. The 4 team.playoff was created BECAUSE of 2011. It was created to give OTHER conferences a chance. Unless the other conf champs have a wildly inferior record, the sec won't get more than 1 team.

If they lose to Ole Miss they won't.

So basically if the SEC dropped the championship game we'd be better off???

They took 2 teams from one conference in the article. Could easily justify taking 2 from the SEC

Exactly. We need Baylor, Notre Dame and Florida State to lose more than once

The OP was not about the fans opinion, but about how the 13 will actually vote. Using 2008, Alabama, should have been #3 behind Florida and Oklahoma based on the 13th game + better non conference, yet they got bumped to 6th.

Point being, the 13 will penalize the SEC not favor it.

Let me ask you this. If State wins out, Auburn wins out, and UGA wins out in the regular season. Then UGA beats State in the SECCG.

WHAT THE frick HAPPENS?

Yes, but not 2 from the SEC when clearly the 13th game and non conference should have given the SEC the clear advantage.

UGA would be the only SEC team to get in IMO

Baylor just needs to lose once they aren't getting in with that non conference schedule and won't win a tiebreaker with another one loss Big 12 team like Oklahoma

Okay, say
10-2 Baylor = gone, agree
10-2 Notre Dame = gone, agree
11-2 Florida State = probably gone

11-1 Oklahoma gets in
12-1 Oregon gets in
12-1 Michigan State gets in
12-1 SEC CCG winner gets in

Point being, an extra 11-1 SEC west gets the 2008 Alabama treatment

I'll go you one better. If Alabama goes unbeaten, and a one loss Ole Miss team wins the SECCG, they'll both go, PLUS if a one loss eastern division champ wins the SECCG against Ole Miss, then they and Alabama will go.

No, but it will hurt us instead of helping us as the other power 5 will use their CCG's (or lack if Oklahoma stays at 1 loss) to help them get in.

I don't think any of these only lose one game.
