I figure this could be a spot for everyone to talk about their plans for the weekend, tailgates, possible meetups, etc. I will try to compile some information previously discussed in other threads into this one over time.

As for me, I'm flying into LR around 5pm Friday and heading out Sunday afternoon. I'm staying at the La Quinta on S. Broadway. Thinking about hitting up Vino's Friday night since it's close to the hotel, all are welcome if anyone is in the area. Pigfeet mentioned hosting visitors at his tailgate, idk if that offer is still good?

I think we're hitting up a couple of other people's tailgates, so I'm no help there.

I think you mentioned earlier walking from the LaQuinta to Vino's. While I wouldn't call it dangerous, it's not very scenic and outside the normal tourist walking area. Just wanted to give you a heads up. And we did mention Vino's is a dive, right? Great place, though.

Hope you have a good time!

It's only 0.4mi so I wasn't really concerned, but looking at it on google maps you're right it does seem a little sketchy. I should be alright though since it's not very far.

And yeah I heard it was a dive, I don't know anything about it other than someone suggested it. I'll be solo Friday night so I was just looking for something to do close to the hotel.

You'll be fine. Like I said, just wanted to give you a heads up.

Your other option is to go down to the Rivermarket area. Lots more bars and restaurants, but it's about a mile from your hotel. Maybe make friends with the shuttle driver on the way from the airport and see if he'll give you a ride?

It's growing, but it's roughly defined as President Clinton Avenue from Cumberland to Sherman.

Rivermarket

Vino's has good pizza, great beer and a laid back atmosphere. Not dissing it at all. In case you hadn't looked at their website: Vino's

Yeah I checked out their menu, great prices.

It might just depend on other people. If nobody wants to do anything I'll just walk to Vino's. If there's a group that wants to get together at river market I'll head over there.

It should be a great matchup. An above average run D vs a great running O. I'm curious to see which one breaks first.

Agreed. I hope BB was right and Philon is back, or our run D might be a little less stout. We'll really need it if Gurley is back.

The weather is supposed to perfect. Really looking forward to it.

You'll be fine - the story of downtown Little Rock is that everyone moved away and it shuts down at 5 on M-Thursday, at 4 on Friday. Your main walking roads are going to be Broadway, Capitol and 7th. Take Broadway over to 7th (don't get hit by a car over by the McDonalds. That's the worst part) and just walk on down.

The sketchiest stuff is homeless dudes. There's a plasma center nearby, and it attracts a certain crowd. I assure you, they are not well fed and can be taken down pretty easily. If you see a particularly dirty looking dude who is walking, that's Dirty Keith. Make a wish and go about your day. If he asks for cigs, you have been blessed.

Vinos is an interesting spot. During lunch it's filled with lots of government folks and office drones. They make their slices during the day, so it's a good time to get them. After work, it's a different beast. You've got lots of groups coming - you have the government and office types bringing their families, you've got older hipster types having a beer and lots of teenagers. (Be sure to card before talking to a young lady). There is a room in the back with a stage. It used to be one of the best punk clubs in the state, where you'd go see Fugazi or Jawbreaker. Now it's mostly for the all-ages crowd (READ: CHILDREN WITH POORLY TUNED GUITARS) so there will more than likely be some crummy music coming from out the back room. This won't impact your dinner. If you smoke, there's a back deck, but ask how to get there, because it's a tough time otherwise. Get a calzone at night, or a whole pie, because the slices they're using are from earlier in the day. They're still good, but treat yourself man.

Your other option is to go north on Broadway and then east on Markham. You'll pass by the Pulaski County Courthouse and the Old State House Museum, both places of great history and architecture. Further on the south side is the Capital Hotel. Drop in to the Capital Bar and Grill on the first floor if you want to have some upscale drinks/food. Make friends in that room and start your political/real estate career in Arkansas OR just hang out with some finance bros. They're kind of the worst. (SORRY FINANCE BROS.) Continue on Markham and it will eventually become President Clinton Boulevard. There's bars and goings on, but you're kind of on your own after that. Dugans over on third street is okay, too. Third is also a good way to get back to Broadway.

If you're worried about any sketchiness, know that Markham, Broadway and Third are going to be the most traveled streets in Downtown LR that night, so there's eyes on the road, and you will have no problems unless you walk out in to traffic. Please don't walk out into traffic.

At some point this weekend, you should go to Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken in LR. My cousin opened up a branch site of the original from Memphis.

If you like whole in the wall, grungy, pbr drinking bars, id say white water tavern. They usually have some good bands playing. Flying saucer has TONS of beer on tap, it is in the river market, where a ton of other bars, clubs are.

Personally, I would advise against that.

It would take you 15-20 minutes to walk sober.

Walk all the way down Broadway North, then Right on President Clinton.

I'm less sure of this. I live and work between where you're staying and the stadium. I rarely go outside of those neighborhoods for everything. For the most part, there aren't very many sports bars downtown (I think Gusanos markets themselves as this? I've never been) so I don't think you'll find too many sanctioned pregame parties. That said, if you have any UGA related gear on, it's going to be an invitation to talk football. There will be folks everywhere who will want to talk football. So just go to the place that looks the best to you downtown.

THAT SAID - There are places West of the stadium that will probably be doing this. I don't know anything about them, outside of saying that they're less centralized. Also, there's a neighborhood in North Little Rock that's just across the river from where you're staying called Argenta. They've got a pretty good vibe going on to.

On Saturday night, if I were you I'd hit the River Market or Argenta. Immediately after the game though, take a crew and go check out White Water Tavern. Bret Bielema likes it. It's a dive, but great history (Clinton used to take his staff there for food all the time. The kitchen is now closed, but they keep the drinks coming). Later on that night Bonnie Montgomery is playing, and if you're really somber about things and want to listen to some good country music. Otherwise, go find some centralized place. You can't go wrong. Just don't go some place and stay through it. If it sucks, go next door.

Don't the downtown bars close at 2AM? Any later than that and you'd need to cab it to Midtown.

on another note, a few years back there were shuttles going from la Quinta inn to War memorial stadium for the games FYI. Not sure now though. Maybe the trolley will be available at that time for the river market. LINK with a number for the trolley service if you wann call and see
