...to break Tebow's record. Only 14 to pass Herschel.

Does he get one or both or neither? Needs to average a little over 2 TDs a game to break Tebow's Mark and a little under 2 per game to break Herschel's.

That would be freakin awesome if he could. Barring injury, I say that Herschel's is toast and it really depends on how they use him if he gets Tebow's or not. I hope so.

This isn't counting bowl or conference title games for the averages, btw.

Yeah, I get that. I want to see it done in the regular season just so there is no asterisk or the like...

I think it's totally feasible. But remember, Tebow had a whole extra SEASON....AND the bowl and conference games counted, too.

Lot's of times this season, Gurley has been the one to line up and run/bulldoze his guts out getting the ball down the length of the field to the 5 or so.......

Only to then be taken out, and Michel/Chubb/Mason/etc getting to punch it in for the TD.

Actually, I think Troy was the only game where this only happened once.

These don't count for Gurley II statistically, of course, but they are his.

This! I don't care about padding stats but if he does the work to get us 80 yards, give him his due and let him run it in.

Totally agree. I think averaging 2 TDs a game is still very reasonable. It sounds more doable when you think about it that way.

Yea, I have noticed the same and you would think it should be the other way around saving Gurley for the redzone and use the quicker Michel more out in the open field.

If they're going to limit his plays tomorrow if we get a big lead......or against the next cupcake........

They should put him in when we're in the red-zone, and let him get the TDs this time. Instead of just riding on his back down the field and then benching him.

In my eyes, he only needs to hit Herschel's mark. That's the standard for three years of eligibility used. Tebow played four years and "piled" up four more than Herschel. That's 33 games vs. 55 games.

And don't forget that Timmy's first year was spent watching Leak driving the team down the field to the 2 yard line, then coming in with his fresh legs and punching it in. Hershel dragged LBs and DBs down the field to the five, and lept the frick over them to punctuate his point.

Tebow's SEC record is shite. It is meaningless, and not really a fricking record at all, outside the bullgator and Christ fricking crowd.

The standard is the Hershel standard.

IMHO, of course.

Gurley is awesome. But he is no Herschel. Article by Dave McMahon.

Five seasons in a row over Tennessee. Many Georgia fans would never believe it or believe that the Bulldogs would win 11 out of the last 15 since the 2000 season. The series with the mighty orange is now tied 21-21-2. The last time it was tied was after the 1992 season when it was tied 10-10-2. One weird stat is that Georgia leads the series in Athens 11-10-1 and Tennessee leads the series in Knoxville 11-10-1. Hopefully you can use some of these nuggets to impress a friend or to win a bet against an enemy.
Todd Gurley is a stats' guy's dream despite being a defender's nightmare. Game after game, Gurley puts up incredible numbers. This past week was one of his best as a Bulldog. He is not only setting personal bests he is climbing several of the most prestigious Dawg charts. Here are some examples…
• One of the biggest stats that fans look at is the Georgia career rush yard list. Gurley is currently fourth on the list and should move again this week. Here are the top five as of right now.
Herschel Walker - 5,259 rush yards
Garrison Hearst - 3,232
Lars Tate - 3,017
Todd Gurley - 2,984
Knowshon Moreno - 2,734
• He had his career day as he rushed for a personal best 208 yards. That mark is also the best by a Georgia player under Mark Richt. Here are the top five.
208 yards - Todd Gurley (2014 vs. Tennessee)
207 yards - Verron Haynes (2001 at Georgia Tech)
198 yards - Todd Gurley (2014 vs. Clemson)
196 yards - Knowhson Moreno (2007 vs. Troy)
192 yards - Verron Haynes (2001 at Ole Miss)
• Gurley has a long way to reach the great Herschel Walker in career 200-yard rush games, but becoming the second place player will take just one more. Walker is the only one with over one game. Here is the complete list.
Herschel Walker - 9 games
Charley Trippi - 1 game
Kevin McLee - 1 game
Lars Tate - 1 game
Rodney Hampton - 1 game
Garrison Hearst - 1 game
Verron Haynes - 1 game
Todd Gurley - 1 game
• As for 100-yard games, Gurley is now tied for second with Hearst with 16. Herschel is first with 28. Speaking of the Goal Line Stalker, here are his rushing stats through four games in each of his seasons compared to Todd Gurley's first four games. These are rushing stats only.
1980 - Herschel Walker: 77 rushes, 419 yards, 5 TD
1981 - Herschel Walker: 129 rushes, 615 yards, 3 TD
1982 - Herschel Walker: 113 rushes, 502 yards, 3 TD (Heisman)
2012 - Todd Gurley - 44 rushes, 406 yards, 6 TD
2013 - Todd Gurley - 71 rushes, 450 yards, 4 TD
2014 - Todd Gurley - 69 rushes, 610 yards, 6 TD
• As mentioned above, Gurley has 610 yards in four games or an average of 152.5 rush yards per game. If Gurley continues to do that his rush yards per game will be the fifth highest in SEC history. Here are the top five ever in the conference.
171.9 rush yards/game - Herschel Walker (Georgia - 1981)
162.4 rush yards/game - Bo Jackson (Auburn - 1985)
159.3 rush yards/game - Herschel Walker (Georgia - 1982)
153.3 rush yards/game - Charles Alexander (LSU - 1977)
146.9 rush yards/game - Herschel Walker (Georgia - 1980)
• Here is a breakdown of Gurley's 610 rush yards quarter-by-quarter.
1st quarter: 19 rushes, 176 yards, 9.3 avg, 1 TD
2nd quarter: 11 rushes, 55 yards, 5.0 avg, 1 TD
3rd quarter: 18 rushes, 124 yards, 6.9 avg, 1 TD
4th quarter: 21 rushes, 255 yards, 12.1 avg, 3 TD
• One more stat to look at by Gurley, well sort of… Here are the current FBS ranks of Georgia's next three opponents in terms of rush yards allowed per game.
Saturday vs. Vanderbilt: 161.4 rush yards per game allowed (69th in FBS)
October 11th at Missouri: 144.6 rush yards per game allowed (61st in FBS)
October 18th at Arkansas: 139.4 rush yards per game allowed (57th in FBS)
• For those who are wondering. Georgia is currently 25th in opponent's rushing yards per game. Louisville of all teams is first allowing just 58.2 rush yards per game, although the Cardinals' first five opponents were Miami, Murray State, Virginia, FIU and Wake Forest.
• Gurley is averaging 8.8 yards per rush this season and Georgia on the whole is averaging 7.0. That 7.0 average is way above any average for Georgia under Mark Richt. Here are the top three totals for Georgia under Richt.
2014: 7.0 rush yards per attempt
2012: 4.9 rush yards per attempt
2009: 4.7 rush yards per attempt
• The funny thing is the two worst averages under Richt happened in 2002 and 2003 which are two seasons where Georgia won the SEC East. The Georgia record in a season happened in 1992 when Georgia rushed for an average of 5.64 yards per attempt.
• One of those players helping out Georgia's average is Nick Chubb. Instead of rushing for a score, the freshman had a receiving touchdown against Tennessee. Here are the top three Georgia players in terms of career receiving touchdowns by a running back (tail, scat or full) under Mark Richt.
Todd Gurley - 6 receiving touchdowns
Brannan Southerland - 5
Shaun Chapas - 5
• Georgia should get some of their injured wide receivers back this week. Here is a breakdown this season on the receiving totals by the team broken down by position.
By Wide Receivers: 37 receptions, 447 yards, 3 TD
By Running Backs: 18 receptions: 124 yards, 2 TD
By Tight Ends: 9 receptions, 78 yards, 1 TD
• Some of you are saying, enough about the offense, the biggest play of the game happened on special teams and defense. A brilliant special teams play by Collin Barber, Damian Swann and Ryne Rankin pinned the Volunteers on the one-yard line. Then on second down, Josh Dawson recovered his second fumble of the day for the touchdown. Here are the last three touchdowns scored by Georgia defenders.
2014: Josh Dawson (2014 vs. Tennessee)
2013: Shaq Wiggins (2013 at Vanderbilt)
2012: Amarlo Herrera (2012 vs. FAU)
• As you see the last time it happened against Vanderbilt. Dawg fans know how much it hurt to lose against the Commodores last season. That game was in Nashville, this game is in Athens. Georgia has been outstanding against Vandy at home. Here is Georgia's record against each of the SEC East teams in games played in Athens.
Against Vanderbilt: 28-6
Against Kentucky: 26-4-2
Against South Carolina: 26-8
Against Tennessee: 11-10-1
Against Florida: 4-1
Against Missouri: 0-1
