Would a screen pass using OJ Howard be effective or would it take to long to develope & for him to get going? I just feel like this guy is a weapon we are going to need.

You know the pass that was intercepted against West Virginia that was intended to go to Howard? That's going to go for a TD against Ole Miss.

Maybe. I'd like to see him own the space right behind their LBs. Howard vs a LB should be unfair.

So one pass was intercepted that was thrown to him so that means we dont use him anymore and he cant be utilized as a weapon?!? OK.....good logic buddy.

Your reading comprehension seems to be lacking. Compose yourself and reread what I said, buddy.

I think we will see him utilized more going forward. Teams will definitely start to use bracket-coverage on Cooper which will lead to more targets.

I don't know if the stats would back this up, but I feel like Alabama's passing game has been very heavily dominated by throwing outside of the hashes. I feel like the middle of the field has been somewhat avoided, probably by design. I do think the middle of the field (with Howard, RB screens, and others) should be more utilized as teams adjust to what Bama is doing in the passing game.

I may be off on this assessment.

Howard has good acceleration, I don't think he needs a lot of time to get going.

I disagree. He's got those long strides to where it might not look like he's going very fast but he's hauling.

As for the screen, most all of the NFL teams are using the TE screen these days. Our coaches have NFL pedigrees so I'm sure they are aware of the trend. The screen works best when teams are aggressive coming after the QB. I don't think we have seen a lot of that from defenses yet but we might see more down the road. I really like Blake's ability to lob the screen over the defenders heads. We've had some good success so far with screens to Yeldon so I think it's only a matter of time before we see it. Ideally I think it should come off a fake end around to Coop. The defense will react to Coops motion then we pop it to OJ on the other side of the formation and let him take it to the house.

I've seen a few times where Howard is out wide with no one on him really, and Sims quick threw it to him once, but on the other instances Sims didn't check to Howard, and went down field. Which there isnt anything wrong that if he completes a ball downfield. But, I feel like that is an automatic chunk of yards when he does decide to check to that.

The stats probably do suggest that outside passes are used more often, but I will say that there have been far more passes over the middle in the first four games than in AJs entire tenure.

I would think Blake's height would prevent more throws over the middle, but it does appear that Kiffin designs more of them than McElwain and Nussmeire ever did.

stupid thread ... we won't throw to him, so why bring up what could happen if we did? ...

I saw KC throw a screen to their athletic TE Kelce on MNF and thought that would be a good play for OJ. Or better yet have OJ act like he's blocking on a WR screen to Coop then send OJ downfield. Falcons did that on Sunday and Roddy scored a TD on a fake WR screen to Julio
