The team who wins the rushing battle has won this game something ridiculous: 23 out of the last 24 times. The 2002 Tennessee derp-fest in the rain in Knoxville being the one exception (out-rushed Florida 99-94 and lost 30-13).

Here are the stats so far this year:

Rush Offense
Florida - #40 - 201 yards per game - 5.2 YPC
Tennessee - #97 - 126.8 yards per game - 3.36 YPC

Rush defense
Florida - #45t - 128 yards per game allowed - 3.23 YPC
Tennessee - #78 - 169 yards per game allowed - 4.42 YPC

Given that, I think Florida wins, even though they suck really bad.

Thoughts?

Our rushing attack has really improved over the course of the last two games. The numbers are bad, but I'm not sure they tell the whole story.

Jalen Hurd's progression as a rusher

Utah State - 29 yards
Arkansas State - 83 yards
Oklahoma - 97 yards
UGA - 119 yards

Continue that trend Tenn Jed and Hurd will have 140+ this weekend!

Our rushing game is def improving.

But our short passing game is like a rushing attack so you'd have to include that in this stat, IMO.

Game has changed so I'm not as concerned with this as in years past.

I think this is what Florida fans aren't realizing. I keep seeing that "they don't have many yards per play", but it's because of these short effective 6-yard plays that just chip away.

No question. Butch likes to dink and dunk the ball down the field.

One of the most misused stats in all of football is comparing winning to rushing stats. You hear all the time, when "insert team" rushes for at least "insert yardage" they win 95% of the time.

People get the cause and effect mixed up. Often a team gets ahead with either rushing, passing or a balance. Then they work to preserve the lead by using a clock-eating ground attack. The larger rushing yards may be the "effect" of being in a lead, rather than the "cause" of winning.

So yeah, sometimes a great rushing attack is the cause of a win, but stats can be misleading.

I totally agree with you, it just seems more important in this series than most for some reason. Maybe it's just coincidence. IDK.

Tennessee has faced better competition, so it could be why their rushing numbers are skewed the way they are.

The key stat is obviously third down conversion percentage.

I had picked UF to be a surprise team this year - had the Gators beating bama (wrong)

I still think UF will have a decent year 9esp compared to last0, BUT if y'all lose to UT, you MIGHT miss the postseason again

You have Cany and some school for the deaf and blind - 4 auto wins there.

But the rest of the sched is daunting

LSU; UGA; FSU; Mizz & SC are games that will be toss-ups or UF will be favored to lose

It sure would be something if your decision to not reschedule the rain out kept you out of a bowl...

I am not confident in a win at all. We may have a better team, and all signs point to us winning, but after the past 9 years (2012 especially), I won't believe anything til that clock says 0:00

Gator and Vol fans having honest genuine discussion, telling each other that they will win, and almost no mud slinging between the two, wtf has happened to this rivalry.

The rest of the rant is picking up the slack in the mud sling though.

That shite won't work. We only defend the first 10 yards form the line of scrimmage.

Very sad. At least you guys have hope for a brighter future. We know it will have to get worse before it gets better.
